Whale Wars
Just finishing season 2 of this.
Throw a bunch of volunteers into a boat led by idiots trying to stop Japanese whalers in the Antarctic and you've got yourself a proper show with great lol potential. I feel so bad for some of the good, honest ones that go on board though, once they realize what they've got themselves into, specially after they find out who's in charge. It amazes me how Watson gets funding for this. It's clear he's got experience but his decision making leaves a lot to be desired, and he lacks the necessary leadership qualities for such an undertaking. No one in their right mind would make Peter Brown their 1st mate ffs.. I was so happy to see that idiot leave the ship. He was such an inept attention seeking whore. I must keep watching because it's only a matter of time before they suffer a serious accident which would translate into awesome dramatic television moments. It's also interesting to see the reactions of the whalers to them because you know those guys are for real and very serious, regardless of how silly the show can become at times because of how dorky, fake and incompetent most of the people on the ship usually are.

This group, eventually brought down whaling from Japan. Not a spoiler since not in the episodes. Captain Watson might come off as a bit of a dope (particularly if you saw the South Park episode mocking him), but take a look at the guy's career and older films of him. He is a bit of a hero and the only one with the balls to do it for over 20yrs.

I got loads of respect for the Sea Shepherds - even though I dislike the name so much - but it pisses me off how he allowed idiots like Peter Brown to command the crew, or how he'd send clueless volunteers in zodiacs into action in such a hostile and dangerous environment. I'm amazed how disorganized and amateurish they are at times. It's a miracle that nothing ever happens.
It's no wonder that they got criticism. Well deserved in many respects. What sort of captain are you if you do not drill your crew properly before leaving port? I commend his determination, but loathe his attitude.

Ady Gil..
![]() Season 3 is brutal.. I have to take some of what I said back. Watson has got balls, I'll give him that. In the third campaign he really does take it to another level.

Season 3 was all about Pete Bethune. He's a fucking legend for the tactics and crazy stunts he came up with.
On to season 4 now. One word: GOJIRA...!!! OMFG ![]() Iron City, season 5 is on going, btw. I haven't looked it up for fear of spoilers, but I don't think they've fully stopped whaling in the antarctic yet.

Season 4 is epic.
Capt. Watson, Hammarstedt, Mal, Pottsy, Locky, McGinty, Laurens and Capt. Cornelissen are fucking legends. I had so many lols with McGinty. He keeps coming up with new ways to fuck with the Japanese ships. Those airguns were awesome. Apparently the Japanese decided to go whaling again last winter. Season 5 started in June of this year. Should be good stuff.

I did read after viewing your post that Japan is sending whaling vessels out this year. Still hard to fathom this is Japan and not a rogue nation like North Korea conducting these activities.
They say they are going to take 175 whales instead of the usual 875; but I don't buy that. Supposedly Japan will be sending out the vessels with military patrols to protect the whalers. that will force death I imagine. I am surprised the Sea Sheperd crew do not "take care" of the whaling ships while they are in port.....if you know what I mean. |
