I'm french and the JeuxVideo review is hilarious trust me..

They gave 15/20 to PES in graphics saying this

Both smooth and sharp, PES has improved a lot and is now looking fantastic, just how it should on next gen hardware.

They gave 17/20 to Fifa 10 in graphics saying that

Although it's still the same engine, new animations are convincing. Some turfs look artificial and the faces are not perfect but it's not important.

Not to mention the fact that the poor guy proved how awesome he was at PES saying this :

Gameplay has been improved from copying Fifa, you can now have four manual strats such as offside trap holding LT + A/B/X or Y

Nice job ! At least Karim Benzema owned him at Fifa two weeks ago..

I think it's fair to say that Fifa can do no wrong in many reviewers eyes. I've even read a few reviews saying that the bugs in Fifa 10's Manager Mode don't matter as the overall package is superb???

The reason I ended up selling Fifa 09 was due to the poor Manager Mode!!!! Reviewers don't seem to realise that not all gamers play games online. Masters League is by far the most important mode to me (and I believe many others) and as this beats Fifa's Managers Mode hands down I'm happy, and also confused as to why Fifa 10 has been getting such positive reviews

I believe it's the ign review that sums it up very good. They say that FIFA has become the more simulation'ish game (in my oppinion with settings set to semi/manual - they are right) - but PES IS the more FUN to play. I agree. The WE demo was way more fun to play than the FIFA ditto.

And Shaun: I see what you're getting at, when you try to stress that animation and graphics are not the same. Well they are. All other games are judged by both animations and their looks ("graphics") when they get scored a graphics score. Sometimes games just get rewarded and extra mention because of superior animations - but all in all it's still under the catagory "Graphics".

It's just, now we have two games that are very similar about the same genre/sport. And between those two there is a clear difference in how good they look moving, static and in general. FIFA is far superior when in motion. It's more fluid in every way, and controlling a player seems seamless because of the fluidty. It even has incoorporated some very nice clash-animations, so when two opposing players run next to eachother for the ball, they start pushing and pulling at eachother to get the advantage. Something that works very well, something essential you see everyday in a real live footballgame and something that sorely missing in PES. :o(

PES - on the other hand - has the player likeliness. That's in statute, build and facial likeliness. Because of that, you wouldn't hardly need a HUD since you are able to see which player has the ball, because the player on screen (even from "wide camera") looks (and to some degree - feels) like his real life counterpart.

What PES also has, is the X-factor that make every game seem different! This is FIFA's biggest hurdle! I think it comes down to, that every team and individual player in FIFA feels too much alike...? So you end up playing the same type of football be you Barcelona or OB (Odense Boldklub - danish league...) - which couldn't be far more from the real life!
I read somewhere, that FIFA has used the engine from their NHL franchise - and that really shines through - IMO. Make quick short passes and the occasional through-pass in FIFA, and you are surely successfull 99% of the time. Decreese those % by scwitching passing to manual, 'cause then you'll have a harder time making precise passes - but then you'll loose whatever small player differences there is i FIFA.

In most of the other reviews I've read today (german and spanish) they also give PES a lower score because of the missing german and spanish licenses... Big deal huh? - NOT! ;o)

But given the choice of either better facial graphics over better animations - I would choose animations any day!
But giving the choice to play the most fun and varying game over the more simulation'ish and reapeating - I would choose the first!
See the comflict there? Both games has one very important thing over the other. And because of that, I just might end up not buying any of the two games this year - because none of them really - really stand out.

And that's eventhough this years PES might be the best PES overall!!
But to sum it all up - IMO the ign reviews sums it up pretty good... (if I remember correctly!) ;o)

I'm a bit dissapointed by some of the reviews. Would they be reviewing full versions of the game?

does anyone know? or are they basing their review on the demo?

I agree that fifa is improving... but as someone who has bought both for a while.... i think that fifa 10 is a backwards step.. but thats my opinion....

what i can't believe though is that.. how many reviews came out for fifa yet none and i mean this sincerely NONE of them mentioned the 63 bugs in manager mode... the server side which went tits up after 1 day... the fact that teams all feel the same and teams press 90 mins and shooting is inconsistant..

from what i've read on the pro evo reviews so far is that.. they are reviewing on what they know of previous versions... eg. server lag etc.. i dont think you'll ever get an unbiased review.. for any game anyway.. most people will go by the numbers... as i've stated before I'll go with my gut... and not 1 persons view "as thats all it is" weither it be a glowing.."this game is the best ever etc. etc" or "this game is a pile of s--t...."

Not sure alanjog. But the fact that they're not going into any sort of depth on the new Masters League would suggest to me they haven't got the full game. And not one review mentions online either?

It sounds like the keepers are still as poor as ever and the animations have hardly improved.

Whats annoyed me even more though is the poor quaity of the reviews. I don't mean the scores or opinions, I just mean the lack of depth of the reviews. Everyone seems similar eg - they yap on about EA vs Konami for 50% of the review but say little or nothing about what the new Masters League is like or how the tactical sliders affect play?

A lot of the reviews seem to be based on the demo code rather than the full game, otherwise why wouldn't they talk about the Masters League more?

I'm gonna judge the game for myself but what I do find strange is the fact reviewers are all saying the ML is far better than Fifa's Manager Mode and yet they gave Fifa great review scores.

The ML & Manager Mode are the main single player modes and are MASSIVELY important so surely a poor single player mode should not result in a 90%+ score?

It's the equivalent of scoring an FPS 90% but saying the single player campaign is poor!! If that happened in a FPS the game would struggle to get above 80%

As I spend 90% of my PES time on Masters League I think I'll be really happy with PES 2010 Fifa 09's Manager Mode just didn't do it for me and I've heard Fifa 10's is just as bad! Bugs galore!

So far from what I've read - then everybody is praising the Master League and are practically saying "it's pissing all over" FIFA's Manager Mode.

So if that's your thing (single player - offline) then I believe PES10 would be your choice this year! ;o) (It would be mine too - if I did decide to buy any of the games...).
Although FIFA's new Become a Pro where you create yourself seems to get extremly high praises as well - since you can use that created player in multiple gamemodes...! ;o)

Really? i think you'll find people on here right now that are blinded by their pes love and that pes can do no wrong, you want pes to get a 10 in everything so you can go out and buy it, play a few games, find a shit load of bugs and then find the game really bad then on crying like a little girl because you made you're mind up on getting the game because of a review.

fuck reviews they mean jack shit, want to play it go buy it, don't like it anymore? trade it in or get yer cash back. simple

personally when i read reviews of fifa.. after getting the game and playing it i reckon most reviews are based on a quick flick through menus... but most just play exhibition.. unlike the majority of users who can pick apart a game through long term play..

How does fifa get a 9 with all the things that are wrong with it, the mm is completly broken, the keepers are quite poor at times. How do these things never get mentioned in the fifa reviews.

The best reviews are the user reviews.

F**K all these reviews. I'll review the game myself once I've got it next week.

Not by reviews by people that I don't know that could possibly be baised either towards PES or FIFA.

I think everytime I review a game I get it spot on. I get FIFA and PES every year so I know the games inside out.

That's what all you guys should do too. Review it for yourself once it is out.
And if your relying on reviews to make a decision to buy the game or not - It's the wrong decision.
