World Snooker Championship 2009

Who else will be watching?

I like the World Championship because of the ridiculously long first round matches. I find it easier to bet on players in these.

Ronnie is, unsurprisingly, the huge favourite for the tournament at 9/4. Nearest to him is Selby at 7/1. Hendry is 50/1 if you fancy an outside go.

Why am I talking like a bookmaker? Probably because Betfred sponser this now.

It should (emphasis on should...) be on from 10am tomorrow on BBCi.

Also, Fun Fact: Ken Doherty is playing Dennis Taylor later on at the venue. They haven't played each other before, and being as though Doherty failed to make it this year, they're having a match later on. Not on TV though, sadly.

I'll be watching, or at least the matches that catch my eye. Williams v Hendry looks good, and watching Ronnie is entertaining, on and off the table.

I've bet on Murphy to win it in the betting thread, though if O'Sullivan is at it and can stay focused, there'd surely be no hope for anybody.

Does this have Hendry/Williams and Ding/Liang in the first round? I saw those two interesting ties listed a month ago but couldn't remember what tournament it was for.

Not sure who I will root for out of the favourites. I don't like O'Sullivan or Day, so maybe Carter.

Yeah, I think it's between O'Sullivan, Selby and Murphy. Maguire will probably go far too.

I've got a couple of accumulators on for the first round matches;

O'Sullivan 2/13
Ding 4/9
Selby 4/11
Perry 8/11
Murphy 1/3

£3.50 on that will get me £18.32 in return. Not huge, but then most if not all of my picks are the favourites for their match. The Ding one worries me most. He's playing Liang Wenbo in round 1.

Also, I've gone with another one, that isn't as likely;

Hawkins 5/4
Hendry 5/4
Swail 6/4

£1.50 on that gets me £18.98 back. Here's hoping. >_>

Oh, and I have £1 singles on Murphy (14/1) and Selby (7/1) for the tournament too.

EDIT: Btw, if any of you fancy some of the matches to have a bet on here, let me know and I'll put them up in the Bookie.

I will watch bits and pieces of it, I used to watch it religiously for years but now its not as exciting.......Jimmy White Vs Stephen Hendry matches were legendary.

O'Sullivan is currently 3-2 down against Bingham. He was 2-0 up, too. In the second frame he made a 140 complete clearance, and is likely to be up there with the highest breaks of the entire tournament.

I have Ronnie in my accumulator, so he'd better deliver. :@

Selby to win. Im a fan!

Played snooker a couple hours ago...shocking first frame. Then won the second after needing a snooker with all the colours left...found my potting form thankfully. Then lost a black-ball decider in the third.

But screw it, I trounced my mate 7-1 in pool after, and 8-balled him in the first match

Get it together Ding, you bell-end.

4-1 up, lost the lead. 7-4 up, lost the lead. Was 8-7 down and has now decided he can play Snooker again, and now it's 8-8. Gonna be a close one.

EDIT: And now he's 9-8 up.

EDIT2: And now he's won 10-8. I never once doubted him.

Anyone see the Hendry-Ding match? Great game, Hendry will be a tough match for anyone now especially if he can keep cutting down his positional mistakes.

I really want Hendry to win, or Robertson. Well as long as Shaun Murphy doesn't I will be happy.

Mark Allen, get in there ! Played brilliant and I really don't know what was wrong with Ronnie, he's not right in the head.

Was great to see Allen win, he certainly seemed to want it more, the mighty fist-clenching

Maybe he wasn't bothered in winning yesterday so he could have the day off today and watch the London Marathon instead...

I don't think necessarily so, more a case of inconsistency than mental attitude.

Mark Allen played very well, and in closing the match, punished Ronnie for any mistake he made.

Yeah O'Sullivan is an absolute dick. He never gave Mark Allen too much credit, it was all about how bad HIS game was and that HE was poor, not that Mark Allen played well. Plus I hate the job crowd that follows him everywhere, they have no place in snooker arenas, all that weyyyy heyyy come on Ronnie, you got it son, who are ya! this isn't a west ham match ffs.

Whatever you think of O'Sullivan, the day he properly retires from the game, I know I'll find Snooker a hell of a lot less entertaining.

Hendry's started well against Murphy. I used to hate it when he won all those titles in the 90s but now I would love it if he went on to win it this year. It would surely be his best ever win given he was not considered a favourite at the start of the tournament. Plus, I like seeing the old skool guys win over the young ones.
