@Sweey a friend of mine is trying to install Windows 10 on his PC. He just bought a 480GB SSD, but we're having a few problems.

- His optical drive is faulty.
- USB boot doesn't work. Gets stuck on that "Reboot and select proper boot device" message. We followed this.
- I've installed W10 on his SSD in my PC (using a DVD), it should at least boot on his laptop, but the same message appears.

What can we do?

"Reboot and select proper boot device" would strongly suggest the SSD isn't being chosen as the boot device and something else is being read instead. I've reached that conclusion based on your third point - that you've clearly installed Windows and yet the laptop isn't booting. The message is consistent and wouldn't necessarily be expected even if installation hadn't been completed successfully.

This can be changed in the BIOS (the key for this depends on the motherboard, typically DELETE but could be F2, F8 or another function key).

But it is, we checked and double checked. Trying to boot from the USB? That message appears. Trying to boot from the SSD? That message appears as well.

I've tried to install Windows from a USB stick in 4 different occasions already, never managed to do so.

From that link...

1. This isn't the issue
2. Legacy was active, not that it should make any difference. We tried with Legany both On and Off, same result.
3. We triple checked this one
4. The disc only has one partition, so that shouldn't be the cause for this

He's going to the store where he bought the disc this Monday, we'll see what happens.

It was occurring after turning off, removing the plug from the wall, leaving and then reconnecting and rebooting. potentially the battery was knocked loose(r) after I did all my tinkering but after making sure it wasn't, and making sure nothing was potentially shorting the MB, it seems to be fine. Overnight reboot was fine, but I left it plugged in. Will remove plug for an hour or so now and check when back from shopping.

Any help? http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-...-replaced.html

I must say, I never unplug my computer. Each to their own on that.

@Sweey I don't unplug my PC either tbh, just after it started doing it, I decided to test when and how it was doing it. it was just seemingly not saving the BIOS and It would do it 100% when unplugged, and about 75% of the time when just standard turned off and on.

I disconnected everything, made sure nothing wasn't touching the cmos reset pins, made sure the battery was in snug and reconnected everything. Hasn't done it since so I assume I must've just knocked something during instalaltion.

Might have to reinstall the cooler. idle temps (ie right now) are high 29-31 degrees, but when running Prime 95 it gets up to the 70's straight away and then starts exceeding 80, so I clearly have fucked up with the thermal paste :/ I've only overclocked to 4.2ghz and 1.19v, but it was still in the 70's at stock.

Can't be arsed right now, it was a fucking nightmare to get in due to the shit cross bar thing not sitting properly at all, and the cooler moving all over the place while I was struggling.
