What do you mean by accidentally bought them? Were you bidding for them on eBay? Also, do you work at a HMV or something? You seem to get a ton of DVDs all the time.

Dan you're already swallowing my load at the moment so it would have to be something very special to persuade me.

Well I was only joking when I said I accidentally bought them. I get about 20 DVDs a month now, which I hardly think is a ton, but I've only really been doing this since January, as since Christmas I've become particularly obsessive with building my DVD collection. Anyway I'm done for this month, I won't be getting anymore until mid-April. The Blu-ray thing also started at Christmas when I got a Blu-ray player, but I reckon by next month I'll have all the currently released Blu-rays I want. I imagine I'll probably lose interest in a few months and move on to child porn or something. But I need to complete this horror list first:

The Toolbox Murders
Effects
Nail Gun Massacre
Patrick
Blue Sunshine
Two Evil Eyes
Cat's Eye
Carrie
Pet Sematary
Cujo
Friday the 13th Part 2
Friday the 13th Part 3
Society
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Sleepaway Camp
The Stepfather
Happy Birthday to Me
Visiting Hours
Christmas Evil
House Complete Set
Clownhouse
The Gate
Dolls
Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 Pack
Silent Scream
Eyes of a Stranger
Motel Hell
Martin
The Crazies
Return of the Living Dead
Return of the Living Dead 2
Alone in the Dark
April Fool's Day
Poltergeist III
Squirm
Pieces
Eyes of a Stranger
Army of Darkness (Optimum release)
Critters Ultimate Collector's Edition Set
Gremlins
Gremlins 2
The Hills Have Eyes
Twilight Zone
Creepshow II
Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things
Shock Waves

I've decided not to purchase/order any more DVDs until Lent is over, in order for me to catch up on the DVDs I haven't watched yet.

Just made a nice purchase at a very nice price. I've only seen parts of this film before and can't really remember whether I like it or not to be honest but I'd be an absolute plank not to buy it.

Gladiator: Extended 3-Disc Special Edition - £2.99 (free delivery)

If anyone else is interested, here is the link, get it while it's hot:

PS: Superbad is also £1.50 in Somerfield apparently - worth a buy if you don't already have it no doubt.

PSS: (Dundon's style - yes) I indeed deleted the post from the Materialism thread and redirected it in here. Booyah!

I've got a bit of a dilemma guys, obviously DVD-related. I'm wanting to buy Casino Royale, and there is 2 editions and I'm not sure which to choose from. Anyone able to give me some of their input ?

Casino Royale 2-DVD Edition - £3.99

Casino Royale Deluxe Edition - £8.99

My dilemma is that, the 2-Disc is pretty much half the price, but it just doesn't look half as good. As Barn was saying earlier, there's always the desire to have the best of a DVD when you buy it, the creme of the crop. I may possibly just go for the Deluxe Edition, maybe someone knows a cheaper price than £8.99 ?

Where you buying them from, maybe the postage and package could pay a price?

Like if it was from Play.com, who have free delivery, i'd go for the Deluxe edition.

I'd probably buy the deluxe one regardless, looks kinda cool.

The 2-Disc Edition is from HMV for £3.99 with free delivery.
The Deluxe Edition is from Play for £8.99 also with free delivery.

Hmmm... decisions.

I think the 2-Disc Edition actually is better than the picture above, and comes in a nicer 'case'. Although I'm still swaying towards the Deluxe Edition purely because it looks quality. I don't really like Bond films usually, but this particular one I really enjoyed, I've already seen it two or three times to be honest. Figured it would finally be worth the purchase.

Hunter I'm not a Bond fan but my dad has the original 2-disc edition and got the Deluxe edition on Blu-ray and I can tell you at least that the Deluxe edition looks a hell of a lot nicer. And trust me, the 2-discer isn't that nice on person, it looks pretty wad and the slipcase seems flimsy. But as for content I don't know, try DVDcompare.net. But if it was me, and if I really liked the film, I'd probably go for the Deluxe edition, especially as its not that much extra.

What I will say though is that in the US and UK Casino Royale is cut on DVD, by about 20 seconds I believe. As I understand, the Australian Region 4 Deluxe DVD is the best to get if you want the uncut edition of the film and the best overall package.

Cheers Barn mate.

Was very tempted to get the Deluxe Edition anyway and you've helped sway me. I had already ordered the 2-Disc Edition off HMV earlier today before realising a Deluxe Edition existed, I swiftly cancelled the order so I could have a think, post in here and get some feedback. Glad I cancelled it now, and I can't wait for everything to arrive through the door now.

As for the different Region versions, I'll just stick with the UK Region because I believe that is the only one which an Xbox 360 is compatible with. I bought Scarface in US Region but that was only because I was in the USA at the time and it was a Special Edition, in a huge box case, weird thing, I'll get a picture up.

Gladiator Extended 3-Disc Special Edition
and Casino Royale 3-Disc Deluxe Edition.

Probably the best 2 DVD purchases I've made in absolutely ages, purely for the fact that they're such good value for money, and they're both packaged superbly. I mean people can say the packaging doesn't matter because it's the disc which shows the movie, but that's nonsense in my opinion, excellent DVD casing can make all the difference.

A good DVD package can certainly help sway me. If, for example, I see a fairly obscure 80s horror that has been given the Special Edition DVD treatment, restored, laden with extras and with attractive packaging, it makes me more inclined to purchase it.

Thankfully I quite often watch the Special Features, can be quite interesting. Sometimes I will just want to pass the time a little bit before I go to sleep, or before doing something and they fit in perfectly, even if they're just on in the background and I glance at the screen every now and then.

Of course you're right; but there's something about them being on a DVD which assures me that some effort went into it, which makes me think that its a film worth caring about, which in turn leads me to believe its worth seeing. Its a vicious cycle of wank I'm afraid.
