My point of view about PES 2019 and Konami right now

I know PES 2019 isn't even out yet. But, due to some informations released recently, I feel the need to write this.

PES 2019 is almost out. Sure, the gameplay is one of the best out there. And the visual quality of the game is also impressive - graphics, lightning and player faces are amazing in PES. But still there is something driving me mad.

Master League was supposed to be more realistic this year. We got a lot of new licenses for a lot of amazing leagues and stadiums. And I loved it. I was going to buy the game just for that. But then, bad news made me change my mind. No new things in the edit mode. Not even a single new national team... and then, the last drop... NO 2ND DIVISIONS FOR ITALY AND SPAIN?

I mean, what idiot at Konami even though about removing the 2nd divisions of 2 of the biggest football countries in the world?

How is Master League supposed to be more realistic without the fight for promotion or avoiding relegation? And we'll have to see always the same teams in those leagues, no matter how many seasons pass in game? And what about the fans from Spain and Italy, how they felt when they know their 2nd division is being trashed away? And the excuse is ridiculous: lack of space. Come on, this is really ridiculous. What kind of engine, database or whatever do they use in their game that doesn't allow them to add more leagues without removing others?

Did Konami even think about the consequences of removing those leagues? At this point, I start thinking that Konami is either dumb or don't care about the players. If they don't think about the consequences, then they're dumb. If they though about the consequences but still removed the leagues, then they don't care about us.

Also, I accepted the loss of Champions League license, because they were using it the wrong way, and they were spending lots of money they could be using to improve the game.

Serie B and La Liga 2 weren't like Champions League. They were unlicensed leagues, which means they didn't spend any money on it. Now I ask: why removing something that people enjoy, gives a lot of realism to Master League and doesn't cost any money? I mean, if this was a PS2 game, the lack of space would be a good excuse, but we are in 2018/19, we have 1TB hard drives, Blu Ray disks that can go up to 50 GB, I don't think there is the need to remove things because of space nowadays.

Speaking of PS2, PES never really needed licenses to be the king. On the PS2 era (and perhaps also on PS3, until 2013), PES was the king simply because of his gameplay, for the game modes (Master League is simply the best) and for the ability of editing and making the game the way we want. Everyone loved it. But nowadays, it seems they are trying to copy FIFA: Focusing on the online (cmon, MyClub is just a bad try of copying FIFA's UT, specially now with the cards. It's their money grinder) and then trying to fill the game with licenses, removing leagues we like, instead of focusing on what's really important - the players/community - it's just a bad move.

For several years, I refused to believe all those comments from the community, saying that PES is dying, that the game is getting worst every year, etc. I really believed that PES was going to recover from the failure that PES 2014 was. Every since the first news about PES 2019 came out, I always had great expectations for PES 2019. I really thought that Konami was finally going in the right direction. But it seems I was wrong. Every time Konami adds something good they have to ruin it with something else. At this point, they'll never catch up with FIFA.

Also, there's another question: the effort that the community put into making the kits for Serie B and La Liga 2 and getting everything ready to do what Konami can't do. Some might say that Option file developers and Konami doesn't have any connection, therefore they don't have any responsability to warn the community about it. But if you think better, those editors who spent countless hours doing kits and option files are one of the things that kept PES alive during these dark years, after it's dawn due to the failure that PES 2014 was. So, in my opinion, even though Konami don't have a legal obligation to warn us about that, I think it would be morally correct to warn everyone. That's just a big lack of consideration for the players, and it just show us the real face of Konami and how they treat players that have been supporting them for years.

I am really dissapointed right now.

Unless something changes, perhaps in a future DLC, I have no intention to buy PES 2019 right now. And I am not moving to FIFA either. I'll stick to PES 2018 for a while and continue developing my PES 2018 projects, perhaps updating the squads to 2018/19 season or something. I recommend other people do the same: not buying the game. Perhaps one day Konami will look again to what's important - the players/community. But my hope is ending so they better be quick.

Some might say that I am hating, but I think I got a point on this. Feel free to discuss and share your thoughts. Share this topic with others if you want, perhaps Konami will listen if we stand up, but I have little hope right now.

I am sure a lot of people share your opinion but they added 7 leagues this year & lost 2. That is a positive. Having more Euro leagues will make European ML more realistic. I know you create the second Portuguese league so that sucks for you. I probably would not buy the game either if i did all that editing. I getting to old to spend all my time editing. I just want to play the game. Now all i have to do is create one league, the Bundesliga. Edit the English leagues & Spanish league kits & badges then edit Juventus. I personally dont care about the leagues that were removed. I never used them. I would rather have more first division leagues. But thats just me. I wish they would let the fake teams be put in any region but they did not do that. That way people can make leagues from whatever region they want. Since they did remove Serie B & La liga 2 then they should let you create 2nd divisions.

Konami have to do the best they can within there budget. Fifa budget is like comparing Manchester City to Millwall. Then complaining because Millwall did not sign Mahrez. FIFA has so many much money to buy licenses & hire staff. Champions League & Europa League license was a waste of money. All it did was put the logos & names in the game. Glad they are gone.

I agree with you, philips. This is quite disappointing, particularly since they waited until last minute and shitted on the editors. And even though I never used those leagues, Serie A finally looks like it will be interesting this year in real life, and if I was going to get the game, i'd probably give Italy a shot in Master League. But without Serie B that's a bust for the reasons you described.

Moreover, even though I never get a game two years in a row, I started to get excited for this one because of the demo and the new licenses. I was really anticipating some new South American stuff, even though all the leagues they announced were European. And in reality: no new leagues, no new legends, no lower division teams from Argentina or Brazil, no hint of Libertadores. CAI is partner, but still no stadium. In fact, there are less teams now: last year Argentina had 29 (now 26), Brazil had 22 (now 21). No new Asian leagues either. All they added is Colo-Colo's and Alianza's stadiums. And some epic players are left out now. We discussed this in the neighboring post. But the gameplay does look fantastic.

So I am really on the fence. I guess it depends on DLC stuff and whether or not Ibrahimovic and Conca and all those CSKA veterans are in the game.

Yes I like to edit, but still I could live without making 2nd portuguese division on PES 2019 (even though they should add an option to "attach" fake teams to make a 2nd league for ML). But I can't live with almost no 2nd leagues at all (only England and France), it's not realistic at all.

They added 7 and lost 2, but that doesn't mean it is a positive. It kinda depends on what leagues they removed. And they removed kinda important ones for a lot of people. Sure, the new leagues are fantastic, I was very excited to try them out, but I can't play a Master League that doesn't have one of the most realistic aspects of football. Master League in PES 2019 will look like you're always playing in MLS, with no promotion or relegation.

Also, Serie B and La Liga 2 were unlicensed, which means it won't affect their budget anyway.

And if their game engine/database/whatever can't handle a few more teams without removing others they shouldn't even think about focusing on doing that on PES 2019 without upgrading that game engine/database/whatever.

Sure, I understand that many people don't care about those leagues, but many other people do. They shouldn't remove them. Even if you don't play in those leagues, it still good to see that the team list changes on each season. This aspect makes the game so much more dynamic. This is a lack of respect to the fans who have been supporting the game for years, specially the ones from Spain and Italy.

(however, as I mentioned on the topic, I agree with you on the Champions League part, it was a waste of money)

Sticking with PES 2018 if nothing changes.

You got the point. I though Konami was going in the right direction, but it now seems they don't. For example, as much as I like new stadiums, it would make more sense to add stadiums from leagues that people can actually play than adding stadiums from teams that are in Other Latin America and Other European, don't you think? And they shouldn't even start adding a lot of leagues if the game wasn't prepared to receive them, so they didn't have to remove leagues and generate this wave of negative comments from the community. Konami made a lot of great work - I recognize that, I am not a hater - but they made a very dumb move that affected us. Let's see if they try to fix it or if they don't care, again. PES is losing it's identity, it still a fairly good game (better that FIFA in my opinion) but it doesn't feel like a PES game like those in PS2-PS3 (until 2013) era, where you had a lot more freedom to make whatever you want in the game. Who remembers creating boots? creating stadiums? importing fan chants (even on Ps2, when that wasn't possible, I remember we had some presets to choose from, which we now don't have? playing with dinossaurs and ostriches and all those crazy balls we had? Where is the fun now? I can't find it on PES MyClub, and neither I can on Master League if they don't do it properly.

There is a pool going on on twitter, I don't think it will change anything but I voted anyway: https://twitter.com/fieritacatalano/...75398092652546

Damn, I wish I knew about PES back in the ps2 days! Which edition was the one with the ostriches? An which do you think was the best?

But this hopefully sturs up enough outrage that it is fixed!

On PS2 PES 6 is often remembered for being one of the best. It had these stuff. I never played it, which is a shame.

Also, I forgot about the Penguins and the crazy heads. Some real fun in those times

I played a lot of PES 2009 though, and it was great. And it also had those crazy things:

I played a lot of PES 2011 as well, and I remember it had some of that crazy stuff. Oh, the fun I had with this game! I guess we'll have to wait a lot until we see a game like those, where you can either play seriously (having a great ML or BAL, for example) or have fun with these crazy things. Not to mention the stadium editor, which was one of the best things that was removed after PES 2013

Now, for the best PES ever, I am not entirely sure. PES 2013 is a great choice - freedom you have to create whatever you want (specially on PC), a lot of stadiums (including all La Liga stadiums if I am correct) plus the stadium creator, importing chants, a great Master League and Become a Legend, Champions League and Libertadores, ...

PES 2017 and 2018 are also between my favorites right now. They don't have that crazy stuff, editing options or all the La Liga stadiums, but they have a good amount of leagues, a decent edit mode (even though they could improve it) and great gameplay and graphics. These are the ones I'm playing and the ones I recommend playing right now

I don't see why Konami don't let users create multiple fake leagues and add them to whatever leagues they want or as a stand alone league, it would cut all the negative talk about lack of licenses then with the editing community so active these days.

Wow, read the whole thing, phillips_99.

I am shocked, although I never really played with SerieB or Liga2, but I know how important these leagues are to players from these countries. I'd hate it if the English Div 2 was removed.
I think the workload is too much for Konami? Although the leagues are fake as are the teams, the players are real and therefore will need updating with stats, appearance and transfers.

Konami need to employ more devs to keep up to date with the back-end stuff otherwise this scenario will keep happening. They're spreading themselves too thin.
We need MORE editing tools! The devs should be working on this!

Yes that is true, but a lot of stats from Serie B and La Liga 2 were already made, and let's be honest, they don't really update the stats every year. There are lots of players (for example, in Liga NOS) that have the same stats as last year. And if little teams of editors or even individual editors can create a league in a few weeks or months (just look at how fast the community creates Bundesliga every year), what can't Konami do with his team? I mean, it may be smaller than EA, but sure it is bigger than most editing teams out there.

But yes, we need more editing tools! Imagine what we could do if we had the possibility of adding new teams and leagues completely from scratch, editing the competitions, balls, boots, scoreboards, fan chants and stadiums! When is Konami going to be smart?

I don't think I'd ever play FIFA again if Konami gave us all them editing options.

True about not updating (apart from age) lower league players.
But ya know what. It's just nice to have them there! Plus there's some classic players in the lower leagues - with pre-set faces. Anyway...

What I would love to see happen, is for the face editor to contain "Upload Image" a bit like the kits. This way, we can create a PNG file of players faces and upload them. Similar to XBOX 360 & PS4 but a much better version! Then we can have all the legends / current players with perfect faces!

There are so many ways Konami could help us / improve their own game. It's so annoying!
