FU***IN ABBA !?!?!?!?
They are the reason "Steps" were around. For pop music you'd say "the Beegees". The Sex Pistols.

Recent years I think the Chemical Brothers have made people think of drums differently. Fatboy Slim for example recreated himself after hearing the Chemical Brothers.
They certainly changed the way I make my music.

Surely Metallica have to be in there. The number of bands around today who are Metallica fans is amazing. They're also one of the reasons I decided to learn bass.

There are a lot of Bands around now with a definite influence from Radiohead...
Also other influential bands/artists have got to be; The Velvet Underground, Roxy Music, Marvin Gaye, Johnny Cash, Prince, Queen, Micheal Jackson, David Bowie(Though I don't like him), The Smiths/Morrissey, Aphex Twin, and there alot more...

why is the cure on anyone's list? joy division and bauhaus were doing the cure before the cure did the cure.
what about kraftwerk - the single most influential electronic band ever. the beach boys - who rivaled the beatles and influenced the Sgt. Pepper album as it was a answer to the Beach Boys 'pet sounds' which paul mccartney still calls the best album ever made (coincidentally it was number one on NME's best albums of all time). Nirvana, even though I'm not a fan. the Sex Pistols have to be in there even though they were pretty terrible, they did have a profound effect on music's history. |

If Nirvana changed music then so did Soundgarden.
