Valencia sack Ranieri!!!

From www.uefa.com:

Ranieri discarded by Valencia
Friday, 25 February 2005

Valencia CF have sacked coach Claudio Ranieri following the team's exit from the UEFA Cup and poor run of domestic form.

Second spell
The decision was reached after an emergency board meeting at the Spanish club this morning. The 53-year-old Ranieri arrived in the summer for his second spell in charge at the Mestalla, following four years at Chelsea FC that culminated in finishing second in the English Premiership and reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals last season.

Steaua surprise
Under Ranieri, Valencia have struggled to match their own successes of 2003/04 when they won the Spanish title and the UEFA Cup - although they did lift the UEFA Super Cup last August with a 2-1 defeat of FC Porto. The club have not won for six games in the Primera División and, in last night's UEFA Cup match at FC Steaua Bucuresti, the holders surrendered a two-goal first-leg lead before losing 4-3 on penalties

No resignation
Speaking last night, Ranieri had said: "Resign? I won't do it because I'm not the sort of person to give up. I will carry on fighting. I don't think we have deserved to lose our recent games, but we have done and we have to carry on because sooner or later the bad run will come to an end."

Cup triumph
The Italian first led Valencia from 1997-99, guiding them to a Copa del Rey triumph and qualification for the Champions League. His return was sealed after he came to a compensation agreement with Chelsea, where he had been manager since September 2000, last May.

Plenty of experience
Ranieri has also coached Calcio Campania, Cagliari Calcio, SSC Napoli and AC Fiorentina - where he claimed the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup. After first leaving the Mestalla he had an eight-month spell at Club Atlético de Madrid but was unable to prevent the club being relegated to the Spanish second division for the first time in more than 60 years.

valencia have had a bad season, part of this has got 2 b blamed on the players as well as ranieri, they should still beat bucharest. despite that ranieri dont cut it at the top level. although he does seem quite a genuine & nice person

I can predict the future. I said he would be sacked after lunch today.

And it's a shame, he's a decent bloke. Shite manager, but a nice guy.

Well... I guess Koeman (just fired at Ajax) has a new place to work
There were already rumours that valencie were interested in Koeman, so wouldnt surprise me.

He's not a winning manager. He never has been and never will be. Yes, he's nice, but he doesn't have what it takes to win. I really thought they made a mistake appointing Ranieri, and I think they should've gotten rid of him a long time ago. Glad for them that they have now.

Ranier kind of deserves it though...at the beginning, it was quite good, but all of a sudden, they went down, and didnt perform as well...perhaps it was Ranier stubborness that other team already figure out what their tactics are and they still use the same tactics....

I'm glad he has been sacked. His not worthy of being manager of Valencia. With the players he has at his disposal: Canizares, Ayala, Vicentre, Baraja, Albelda, Aimar, Fiore, Mista etc there are no excuses for such a poor season. I think a move back to Italy will be his next career move.

About time he got sacked. Valencia ain't really doing that well in LFP. Plus their knockout off the UEFA cup. Too bad for him.

lol, Tezzer must have inside information that he was head of kit design at Valencia aswell as manager. If that was the case, even more of a reason to give him the sack :p

Ranieri was never great in Italy either. If he does move back there, no big clubs will want him. He could always go to Lecce if they keep sliding and give Zeman the boot this summer.
