I wonder which formations you guys use. And do you make any changes depending the team your are playing against, for exemple playing a 4-4-2 instead of a 4-3-3 because the opposite team is playing with 3 strikers, like Holland or Norway.

my formation is 4-3-3. I never change it no matter who I play against cause I've learnt it very well and I find it difficult to use another one

I usually also play a 4-3-3 formation, with one defensive midfielder (who doesn't take part in the attacks), 1 tall striker and 2 fast wingers. Whenever I can, so when I have the players for it, I use the system because it's very effective to me. You can score pretty often. And... Attacking is the best way to defend
. But now I'm playing with Bulgaria, and I don't have the players for that system. So I play a 4-4-2 formation. Solid system, though I'm always having troubles playing against 3 attackers. When the opposite team is using a 4-3-3 formation, it's always difficult for me to win the game (on the Extreme Level). Lost 2 times in a row from Holland, and 1 out of 2 from Norway. That damn Carew . |

Carew missed a penalty against me today as Wales today so he's in my good books at the moment
![]() Anyway, I nearly always create a new formation depending on the team i play with - their strengths and their weaknesses taken into account. I like playing the 442 diamond with 1 DM and 1 AM but im experimenting with a 3412 formation later today which I think is going to be unstoppable ![]() Also i made a really good 31312 formation which is a balanced attacking and defensive formation cos uve got 2 wide 'full-backs' who bomb forward but also work well defensively. On a side-note, how do you use 'attack attitude'? Lately i've been putting my 2 strikers on forward runs along with the midfielders who i want to go forward with the DM on the normal setting and my back four on the normal setting also

I mostly use 3-5-2 with 2DMFs too. But I can also play 4-4-2, 3-4-3 and a modified 4-3-3.

3-5-2, with the positions modified to make it more of a 3-2-3-2, with the three midfielders behind the strikers all on attacking attitude, as are the strikers. It seems to work best if I try to use the two defensive midfielders to "shepherd" attackers into wide positions as I seem to lose most goals to a fast attacker bombing right through the middle of my defence. I used to leak loads of goals, now in 35 games I've had 23 clean sheets, and only lost 2 games (on 4* difficulty...is it time to move up?).

---> Robinho
About the attacking attitude: I normally put my back four, and my defensive midfielder (in a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 formation) on backward runs. So they do not take part in the attacks. Very effectively when playing against top teams like France, Holland, ... because you can't be surprised by counter attacks. Let the attacking players do their job. They don't have to think about defending, and that keeps them sharp in front of the goal. Normally my strikers are on normal setting, so they aren't to deep and can ask the bal, create space for wingers,... But when playing 2 attackers in front, try giving one attacker (like a Hartson, or a Koller)a backward attacking attitude. They will play closer to the Midfield. You can give them the ball, keep it, and they pull some defenders towards them. So they create space for the other attacker, which is many times one-on-one or two-on-one. Then it's up to you. Just do what a striker has to do. Make a great move, use pace and score that goal! On a side note: I play with Wales on a 5-3-2 formation. 5 defenders, with one libero, all an a backward attacking attitude, because Wales isn't that good in defence I would say. Then 3 players in the midfield, with Giggs on the left, Speed the playmaker, and Blake on the right. In front, Hartson behind Bellamy (which in my opinion is a great striker. He has it all: pace, technique,... and he scores goals with great ease! Scored 24 goals with him, in about 17 games on the Extreme Level) |

Zygalski, Spike, Mick03, a 3-5-2 formation can be very effective indeed, when playing with two fast wingers, who don't only care about attacking. You have many players in midfield, so you can take control. And that is, in my opinion, the key to win the game.
But I don't think it's a good idea playing that formation against teams playing with 3 attackers, like Holland, and Norway. Once the attacker passes your defender, you are in big troubles. It's not easy to take an Overmars back for exemple ... Against such teams, I mostly play the same formation, 4-3-3. 4 defenders to handle 3 attackers, one-on-one in the midfield and 3 strikers. You can put their defense under pressure, and it won't be easy for them to place a sharp counter attack.Whenever I can, I use a 4-3-3 formation, with 4 defenders on a line, 1 defensive midfielder, and in front a tall player with two fast wingers next to him. Great formation, solid, attacking,... Only need suited players for it. |

. But when playing Brazil, Argentina, Holland, ... it's very effective. You don't need to think about defending with those brilliant players, that's for sure .Which players do you use? Dida in goal I suspect. Then Lucio of course. But what about Roberto Carlos, and Cafu? Do you place them in the defence, or on the wings in the midfield? Emerson defending midfielder? And Rivaldo, behind the 3 attackers or as left winger? Because Denilson is also pretty good... Always having 'troubles' when playing with great teams like Brazil, or Argentina. Just don't know who to put in my line-up. Brilliant players, everyone of them.
