Serie A facing huge uncertainty

For those who don't know, the start of the new Serie A season could already be delayed because of the inability by Torino and Messina to give appropriate financial guarantees for next season. At present, both are excluded from the division with Bologna being reinstated despite their relegation and Treviso being promoted despite finishing behind non-promoted Perugia who are also unable to provide the necessary guarantees in order to take part. Both Torino and Messina are set to appeal the Italian Football Federation's decision in court at the end of this month so none of the four clubs know where they stand at present.

Well, that was the news up until today when newly-promoted Genoa were charged with sporting fraud along with Venezia. Genoa beat Venezia 3-2 in their final game to secure both the Serie B championship and promotion whilst Venezia were already clearly relegated. It appears the match was fixed with eight people and both clubs being issued with charges ahead of a trial that is expected to begin on July 26 and could see Genoa relegated to Serie C meaning that at present there are only 17 certainties for the new season.

Source 2 - Genoa and Venezia

And they say Seire A isn't the most exciting division in the world

Wasn't there the prospect of serie A being delayed last or the season before ?

the whole situation seems in a bit of a mess, seems like the Italian FA will have alot of work ahead of them
there was a time when i feared roma may get relegated due to having a very poor situation in term of finance

Anyway, welcome to serie A Patrick Vieira

The 2002/03 season started on September 15 instead of September 1 because of a row over TV money. Baiscally, Juventus, Milan and Inter have lucrative deals that rake in the cash and other clubs don't.

It happened last season aswell. It was scheduled to start on the 30th of August, and to my dismay, it was postponed for a week. I was dying to see that opening game aswell...

I knew that they expelled some teams out of the Serie A for financial reasons, but I really didn't think it was this bad...

It isn't, regardless of match fixing and and financial problems. The games are played at walking pace and if there is a moment of excitement they happen to fall over and take a free kick rather than actually play the ball.

You disgust me! Sorry, I really have had enough of clueless half-wits passing judgement on something they know very little about. I watch all three leagues extensively and i can say Serie A is far superior to La Liga, and on par with The Premiership.

You wan't to make sweeping generalisations? Fine: The Premiership is a "long ball" league!

That is obviously not true. Just how annoying is it though to have someone say that? If you can only contribute with unjustifiable stereotypes then i suggest you have a look at www.pesfan.com...

Nah, nothing to worry about. It's Italy, it doesn't matter if the league starts a week alte or something. I can remember scandals every year since I've followed Italian football.

I COMPLETELY agree with you on that. There's always one idiot who comes along with their out-of-date generalisations. I knew it'd happen when I made the thread.

Me, i've always been a big fan of serie A as many of my favourite players play there
i was still a fan even when serieA was going through its so called testing times during when La Liga emerged as one of the top leagues
