The official ACF Fiorentina Thread

mates, viola is finally on the rise again after a few dismal years... could we beat the likes of juve and milan to crown champions? this is gotta be our year with luca toni in free-scoring mode!

viola is my second club after arsenal. i started supporting arsenal in 1997 and a few years after, i met my gf in 2002 and she forced me to wear purple shirts all the time as she like purple, so i can easily think of fiorentina. somehow i started to follow their games even they are in serie c. they kept fighting and fighting and here they are: 3rd in serie a!

know more about fiorentina
there were fears that fiorentina would never play in the top-flight again after the catastrophic summer of 2002. the viola had just been relegated to serie b and then plunged down another two divisions after their financial collapse.

the club had lost everything, including their name for a short while as the new team were called florentia viola. However, viola won promotion to serie c1 at the first attempt only to be catapulted into serie b after being ‘invited’ to join the expanded championship. a playoff victory against perugia ensured that viola had their serie a status back after just 24 months away.

fiorentina are one of the greatest clubs in italia football despite their limited success. viola have won the scudetto just twice, along with numerous italian cups, but viola have spent the majority of their lifetime in serie a. in fact fiorentina have only spent four years outside of the top division since 1931.

It's because we have a Serie A thread, plus official threads for Juventus, Milan and Inter (the latter never seems to get much action, and the Milan one only does because of me).

Ditto. I support all the old school hard done by sides in Italy. I used to be a Lazio fan for my sins (SIGNORI) but as I grew up I realised what Nazi scumbags they were. My second side were Fio and so it just went from there. Got a place for Napoli and Samp to name but a few as well though.

I didn't see this thread until now. Fiorentina are my second club (first one being Braga). I have always liked them, but here they only air their games against Juventus, Milan, Inter, and sometimes Lazio and Roma. But with the Italian Leagues highlights I can always see their goals.
Bojinov and Jiminez are a great loss to the team. They were very important players. But at least Luca Toni is going to stay.
Sweey, can you tell me something about the new signings Gobbi and Santana?

Fiorentina's transfers:

IN

Vlada Avramov - 27-year-old Serbian goalkeeper signed from Vicenza. Will be second or third choice behind Sebastien Frey and battling for the supporting role with Cristiano Lupatelli.

Cristiano Lupatelli - Goalkeeper back from a loan spell at Palermo. Puts Lobont's future at the club in severe doubt.

Alessandro Potenza - 22-year-old wing-back returning from a loan spell at Real Mallorca.

Manuele Blasi - On loan from Juventus

Massimo Gobbi - Tough-tackling 25-year-old central midfielder who isn't particularly great at anything but is strong and works hard.

Fabio Liverani - Creative central midfielder who can make good short passes and is a good tackler.

Mario Alberto Santana - Tricky winger who can play on either flank but prefers the right as he isn't two-footed. Very direct, can score goals and crosses well.

Adrian Mutu - Drug-taking Romanian forward who we all know is talented and good on the grouind as well as in the air.

Reginaldo - Brazilian striker who scored five league goals for Serie A's worst team last season, Treviso. Fairly quick, has some strength and is considered to be a potentially bright prospect.

OUT

Gianluca Berti - 39-year-old goalkeeper whose loan spell finished and was returned to Empoli. Has now signed for Sampdoria.

Marco Roccatti - 31-year-old goalkeeper who has been released on a free transfer.

Christian Maggio - Left-back who has moved on loan to Sampdoria for the season.

Giuseppe Pancaro - Veteran left-back sold to Torino.

Christian Brocchi - Returned to AC Milan after his loan spell finished. Was one of the club's most impressive players last season.

Stefano Fiore - Returned to Valencia after his loan spell finished.

Gianni Guigou - Uruguayan midfield utility man who has impressed little since moving to Italy a few years ago. Sold to Treviso.

Luis Jimenez - One of the club's most impressive players despite only joining in January in a co-ownership deal from Arezzo but shockingly not kept on. Has ended up at Lazio.

Valeri Bojinov - Sometimes petulent young Bulgarian forward who did little to silence the critics who insisted he only did so well at Lecce because they were a very offensive team who centred their attacks around him. Is now at Juventus but will be remembered for demanding a move to Inter last January, not being allowed to go and then crying and begging for forgiveness when demoted to the reserves.

Enrico Fantini - 30-year-old striker now playing for Bologna. Not sure if loaned out (as he was last season) or sold.

Fiorentina's first match is tonight in the Coppa Italia against Giarre. Luca Toni is not yet fully fit so Giampaolo Pazzini will play as a lone striker.

Cesare Prandelli is searching for defenders as Marco Di Loreto is expected to join Atalanta leaving the club short of centre-backs.

Avramov... unlikely to have an impact unless some anti-gk heat seeking virus is unleashed.

Cristiano Lupatelli... good cover. I think Fiorentina can sleep easy if Frey gets injured

Alessandro Potenza... has potential, but not really one of my favourites

Manuele Blasi... good all-rounder, will be decent cover

Massimo Gobbi... Didn't he get selected for Italy recently? Probably just a squad player here

Fabio Liverani... a good signing imo and will be a steadying influence

Mario Alberto Santana... I really like his type. Can scare the hell out of fbs and will provide the strikers with ammo.

Adrian Mutu... the last time he really did well was besides a big guy (Adriano at Parma). I think this could be his year and I look forward to seeing him and Toni blow teams away this season.

Reginaldo... don't know too much, but after Sweey's comments, am very, very curious to see what he's got.

Fiorentina lost yesterday against Inter in their first game for Seria A this season. The result was 2-3, with Cambiasso scoring twice in the first half and Ibrahimovic scoring once in the second. Both of the viola goals were scored by Toni in the second half. Fiorentina had a bad start of the season and are in te last place with -19 points, so they will have to work hard for staying out of the relegation zone.

Reginaldo and Montolivo were impressive substitutes yesterday. It's just a shame the team didn't wake up until they got back to 3-1. Prandelli was happy with the reaction and believes if they play as well as they did in the latter part of the match they'll do fine this season.

I knew Montolivo already, so his good performance was not a surprise. But I was very impressed with Reginaldo. He brought what Fioretina's attack didn't have yesterday, speed. Why didn't Jorgensen play yesterday?

He was on the bench but Prandelli chose to bring on Montolivo and Reginaldo instead of Jorgensen and then later Potenza for Ujfalusi to give more solidity. Perhaps Prandelli felt that Montolivo's good form for the under-21's earned him a chance ahead of Jorgensen.

Diego Della Valle (owner of the club) has guaranteed Cesare Prandelli his position as coach for the next three years regardless of where they finish. Prandelli is one of the best coaches in Italy and as far as I'm concerned that's a very positive move should it be the case.

Luca Toni has today told clubs interested in signing him that he will not be leaving Fiorentina in January.

Meanwhile, director Pantaleo Corvino says the club will mount a bid for Palermo defender Andrea Barzagli, wanted by Juventus.
