Cassano sign for Real Madrid

Real Madrid have confirmed they have agreed a deal to sign Antonio Cassano from Roma.

The Italian international has been linked with a move away from Roma for some time after turning down a new deal at the Stadio Olimpico.

Real have won the race for Cassano's signature and he has inked a four-and-a-half-year deal at El Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spanish side have confirmed that the deal is now in place and that Cassano will be officially unveiled on Wednesday.

"Real Madrid and Roma have reached an agreement over the signing of Antonio Cassano," read a statement on Real's website.

"The 23-year-old Italian international will sign for the club until 2010 pending a medical examination which will be carried out on Wednesday.

"He will be presented to the media at the (Bernabeu) stadium at 1200 (Wednesday)."

Cassano will hope the move can help him get his career back on track after a disappointing last six months at Roma.

"Real are the world's best side and we can win everything," said Cassano.

"I'd like to play as soon as possible to help this side win those titles that we can win this year."

Is he aware that he will be competing against Ronaldo, Julio Baptista, Raul Gonzalez, Robinho, etc...???

He's a deluded fool who I think just lost his place in Marcello Lippi's World Cup squad. He's certainly pushed Del Piero far ahead of himself in the running.

Where are Real going to play him - central defence? That's where they need players. Unless they plan on moving Zidane into the defensive midfield position a la Pirlo at Milan.

Haha, as somewhat of a Barca fan I love this. He is not going to improve the squad, and but he is going to cause problems.

I'd put him in the top 5 technically gifted playters in the world, however he's just an idiot... i do hope however he has a run in with Raul and Guti as i dispise the both of em

True, but he had six months left on his contract. Should've just sold him last January when they were offered about five times as much.

I would go nuts if I was head coach of Madrid and they said they were going to give me Cassano. Yes the guy has talent, but he can be one winey bitch.
