"'Ruud and Ronaldo clash'
Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo almost came to blows at training on Monday, according to the Daily Mirror. The Manchester United duo apparently had a heated exchange of opinions after the Dutchman accused his teammate in showing a "selfish" attitude to get sent off for a lunge on Manchester City's Andrew Cole. Van Nistelrooy was apparently furious at Ronaldo for leaving United with ten men during the 3-1 defeat at the City of Manchester Stadium. The pair reportedly had to be pulled apart and were frogmarched to boss Sir Alex Ferguson to explain their actions." Ha. Bet fergie threw a boot at them both after that. |

Ronaldo probably ended up crying and Keown came from nowhere and scared the shit out of Ruud.
It's just a training ground argument that the Daily Mirror have blown up all out of proportion. I mean, could you imagine those two fighting? It'd be the girliest thing you've ever seen.

Finally someone tells the Portuguese sod the truth. Ruud's right, but this stuff happens everywhere so no need to put such in the paper.

Ruud is right, and Ronaldo came in lunging, so there isnt any excuse for that, but the ref should have done his job 2 seconds earlier and given a free kick to Man Utd for the big tackle on Ronaldo, which went unpunished. If referees do their job, and do it consequently, players wouldnt have to feel the need to get revenge.
But like somone else already said: Just a lil bust up on the training. Happens at every club occasionally. I can understand Ruud being furious, as he's feeling miserable to be playing in a team with so much potential, yet they dont seem to win a thing. But I can also understand Ronaldo's frustration, as he's a player that gets fouled a lot so he's vulnerable. The ref should have done his job and none of this would have happened.

I have huge respect for Van Nistelrooy. I feel he is everything Manchester United (and tbh every team) need in a player, good work rate, nevers passes the blame for poor performances, exellent proffesional who motivates his teammates. It`s a pity there aren`t more players of the Keane/Van Nistelrooy mould. When you think he has come back from a possible carrer ending injury to be the player he is now I think he has a point when he moans at lazy players such as Ronaldo.

Ronaldo may not have made contact, but the fact remains that it was a dangerous challenge, lunging, uncontrolled and borne out of spite, anger and frustration. If he'd made contact with someone, it could have been the side of the knee at that height. The referee followed the letter of the law in sending him off, although in this case it is understandable to call it "harsh", as in the circumstances, maybe a more lenient yellow would have sufficed anda stern word.
I'm not Man U fan by any means, but I do feel for Ruud VN. He is a good professional, and a hard worker. He is the work-HORSE of the team much of the time. Ronaldo is a prissy little boy in comparison. |

Could of been carear threatening if Ronaldo had made contact with Andy Cole's ankle/leg, so for that he deserved it, and Ruud was right.

If refs start issuing red cards for challenges that could have made contact then where does it all end? Are we going to start giving goals for shots that could have gone in as well?
Gerrard at Liverpool often goes two-footed over the top of the ball yet escapes almost every time without a caution yet if he made contact he'd break somebodies leg without a doubt. Compare his tackling technique to Lampard (and I hate Chelsea BTW) who tackles hard but doesn't go with the studs up apporach of Gerrard. Gerrard has always been one of those players who can get away with murder on the field without a caution. Just like Shearer has a free license to elbow anybody at any time he pleases, Gerrard is allowed to double-footed challenge for any ball with his studs showing without consequences. Ronaldo was an idiot for lunging in, no doubt and if nothing else, maybe this will have taught him a lesson. I think Rooney constantly getting cautioned for dissent and mouthing off is more pathetic. Great player but needs to grow up real fast or this world cup will be over for him before England get a chance to get out of group stages.

I broke this breaking news in the United thread a few hours ago.
Taken from that post... Reports are emerging that Ruud and Ronaldo had to be pulled apart at Carrington yesterday after a disagreement over Britain's refusal to adopt the Euro. Whilst these things don't happen every day, they do happen. It's just that they don't always get leaked to the press by employees of Manchester United. |
