Dead Heads - Interesting twist on the Zombie survival genre. This time it's 2 recently reanimated zombies trying to survive!!! Damn funny in places and a decent film on the whole with some fantastic make-up/effects.

The Dark Knight Rises - 9/10 : Thought it was awesome. Have seen so many complaints for this movie which are just laughable at best, nitpicking at every single detail they can.
For me though, while flawed, is just great Entertainment. Bane was bad ass and Tom Hardy did an awesome job. Love his voice too as it sounds intelligent but menacing. Catwoman was also better than expected and Hathaway did a good job with her. I also found this to be better than TDK which, for me, had a fair amount of boring scenes but Batman Begins still remains of the best of the Trilogy IMO. |

Adventureland - Jesse Eisenberg in yet another 'personal journey with self narration', film. Not big, not clever, but vapidly interesting enough to while away part of the evening. Kristen Stewart makes for some pleasant eye candy (as usual).

Scott Pilgrim vs the world
One of Barns favourites. Seen this around four times now, never gets boring and is always a bloody good laugh. The final showdown is uber cool, the fight choreography in general for the film is very very good. The video game references of yesteryear are well appreciated by this old man ... ULTRAAAAAAAAAAA COMMMMMMMMMMMMBO!!!! |

Get the Gringo
Excellent entertainment with the ever watchable Mel Gibson. Say what you will, but the man can hold a screen. Good feel throughout and the shootout in the middle was excellent. Only problem is Peter Stormare and Patrick Bachau weren't in it enough. |

Nameless Gangster
While clearly influenced by the films of Scorsese (there's a clear nod to Casino at one point), Nameless Gangster brings a unique take on the tired gangster genre. It's unlike other Korean crime films of late in that it is a more conventional gangster film, mainly set in the 80s and taking place throughout prolonged flashbacks. Anchored by terrific performances from Choi Min-shik (the killer in I Saw The Devil, but completely different here) and Ha Jung-woo (great also in The Chaser and The Yellow Sea), the film does a very convincing job of tracking Choi's rise from customs officer to criminal businessman, feeling like something of an epic (130 minutes is the run time). There's the customary violence and brutality and style you'd expect from a Korean film. The climax is also brilliantly conceived. Excellent film. |

War of the Arrows
Yet another incredible Korean film. This one was just stunning - the acting, the action, the cinematography were all top notch. Yes it's reminiscent of Apocalypto, especially during the second half, but if you're going to life from something great and make a film as good - if not better - then I really don't have a problem. The director's next film will be about the Battle of Myeongnyang with Min-sik Choi as the legendary Admiral Yi Sun-sin. It promises to be special. |
