Guy Fawkes Night

Am I the only one slightly bemused at the apparent celebrating of a terrorist who tried to assainate the King and blow-up the houses of parliament?

Who knows, in a few years time we mgiht have Osama Night where we'll all shoot AK47's in the air and born American flags.

Anyway, is anyone doing anything tomorrow night, or have you done anything? Discuss.

Well, I'm all for that Osama Day. It's almost 9 PM here, there's nowt to do here. Everything's closed, even the ned muppets usually around aren't here.

We could burn them in a fire, yes.

Fireworks are shite. Maybe if you are below the age of 10, they're fine, any older, why do you bother?

And to get a bit of debate going, I reckon you should have to have a permit from the council to let the fuckers off. They annoy the fuck out of people and scare pets. They should be limited to public displays or other occasions where the council deem appropriate.

I actually quite enjoy watching my cats run around like nutcases throughout fireworks period.

Never particularly enjoyed fireworks, most people have Kieran Richardson fireworks - think they're much better than they actually are.

I think its more of a celebration of his death or capture, than his activities.

Not bothered either way, though.

saw a doco on this...fawkes was not the mastermind he was just the geezer that got arrested first....being a non-briton watching that made much more sense of V for Vendetta.
imagine if the plot did go on....there would of been a huge slaying of catholics and a power struggle that would of developed into a civil war

Agreed totally. I will no doubt have a whole load of mess to clean up in the morning as well as our canine was too scared to go for his naturals, even though its now 11.45 and the fireworks stopped about an hour ago here.

How can you judge his actions? Surely you believe what you have been taught about history, had the plot suceeded there's a relative possibility that you'd celebrate Guy Fawkes as a hero. There is then of course the idea that it was all a set up by parliament and that Guy Fawkes was used as the scapegoat.

It is always a fine line between terrorist and freedom fighter, a dinstinction which of course depends whether or not you agree with the cause of the individual/organisation. In cases of distant history the chances of you ever having the knowledge to make that distinction are slim.

Reasons I don't really like Bonfire night anymore.

1. The only thing that is ever on my mind is how fucking freezing my toes is.

2. No doubt my dog won't shut up and is going to crap all over the place which is a pitty since we just completely done up the living room.

3. The noise distracts me from enjoying TV, but that usually happens all week with people setting fireworks off.
