I don't play Online however a few general defensive tips may help none the less. Don't hold R1 all the time as it often tires your player out and Side Backs get tired very easily so bare that in mind. Holding R2 can help also, this acts as a free-roaming control allowing you to manuveore your player wherever you want. For example, if the opposition's striker is waiting for the ball to arrive at his feet, holding R2 and moving your player forward can help barge past the striker and intercept the ball if you're quick enough. If you're really struggling against a winger and need help, hold down Square if another player is close as this will call him over for back up and can overcrowd the wingers space forcing him into errors and such. More than anything it's about positioning, you should often glance around the pitch just to check if your defenders are in good positions to clear the ball and prevent a goal.

thef further into the game you are, the more stamina you lose. if youve lost alot of stamina this will mean your player will be quite tired and will be unable to tackle as good as normal. if a player is running at you keep R2 pressed and backwards. you will stay facing your opponent and will be tracking back this is a good way to hold him up and give your other players time to track back also.

I have to agree with you defending is difficult especially online. If i get beat and it goes to 1 on 1 i have confidence in the keepers. Most of the time they save it.

I also need help defening! In PES5 i was very successful at defending by holding R1 and running away from the opponent and at the same time holding square to get help from a team mate! It didnt matter what area of the pitch my opponent had possesion in, I always did this and it was very successful! I have tried to continue the same method in PES6 but it doesn't work for me! When i run with R1 whilst holding square, I dont really feel like I have good control of the player I am controlling and my opponent normally takes the ball past me and the player which I am holding square to call over is usually rubbish and gets nowhere near getting the ball off the opponent! I wish the defending had of been left as it was in PES5! I tried using R2 whilst holding square and running away from my opponent but he normally runs past me & then R2 dribble isn't quick enough to catch up! Also I notice that holding square always drags a wing back out of position and leaves an opposition winger completely unmarked down the touchlines! In my opinion it is not completely my fault, I think that my teammate A.I is completely rubbish as they never stay tight to runners getting in behind and they are always out of position! Konami better get it sorted!

hey man Pro P.I.M.P u r completely wrong...
don't put u r snatching in pes5 to pes6 because its alot better .
Konami hav done very well & u need to be smart as a defender & not doing
R1 whilst holding square will work here..
u need better to be logical as a defender....

PES^6 is very good as defending wise...bcoz.. now u need to think..

Not if you jockey them correctly, if you're roughly in front of them they'll see you as a barrier and more often than not look for a pass rather than sprinting past. However, if they do kick it past you and run, I find it best to just simply barge them and conceed the free-kick or sometimes nothing at all. It depends on the speed of your defender though, obviously. Hold R2 to gain more control and manoeuvre them in case you're wondering.

Use call 2nd defender to tackle and use the player you are manually controlling to mark something they migh tpass to, or move the person ur manually controlling backwards infront of the guy on the ball to slow them down. (usally in defending counter attack situations)
