Just watching a bit of England-NZ and it's now England 138-7 with 38 overs gone and Plunkett just in to bat...

I have been a one day watched since about 95 and we've always been shit at the one day format.

I remember when vaughan wasn't so talentless. I think taking up the captaincy was the worst decision he made. He was batting so well before he took up the role, and all the extra pressure and work made him lose it a bit.

Ireland-Zimbabwe was great but it is clear that the Zimbabwean tail do not know what to do in that sort of situation. The plank who got run out when taking a run that his more experienced partner wasn't interested in needs to learn a few things.

South Africa blasted 353 in 40 overs

. It might only be against the Netherlands but there are worse teams in the tournament.

I saw this and it was a fine over albeit against some Clogg wearing Poppy picker. Also SA hammered them aswell, a strong performance. Did anybody see that Dutchie leave a straight ball from Pollock? A classic moment.

Ireland was class. But why oh why did that last Zimbabwe man try sllogging the final ball? He could have took a swift single. Crazy.

You do have a point there but I do also think Vaughan is one hell of a captain and is by far the best choice we have out there.

agreed; however, is being a good captain enouhg to have him in the WC squad. If he isn't getting runs even though he is third in the batting order, then he isn't doin everything he needs to do to prove himself.

Just being a good captain shouldn't guarantee his position in the squad imo.

You could be right but then again you have to look at the past, Mike Brearley had a very poor batting average but he was the best captain we've ever seen and it made a huge difference.

Vaughan also hasnt had a great deal of time at the crease. Vaughan is a class batter, once he finds his feet gets his confidence back (vs kenya + canada) he'll have a good chance at firing. A poor captain can undo a cricket side more so than a batter in poor form.

I disagree. Vaughan certainly hasn't been a 'class batter' since 2004. His performance against the w.indies in July 2004 was great(a centruy in each innings) and his knock of 166 in the third test of the ashes 2005 are the only things of note in the past 3 years.

Compare this to the innings of someone like Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting or Ul-Haq.

Captains need to show the way when it comes to standing up and being counted, and when the opening batters don't perform, we can't just keep our fingers crossed hoping that Pietersen and Flintoff both have a wild one; and seeing as how joyce, strauss and Bell have been disgustingly inconsistent over the past year, it doesn't look good.
