English Coursework
Ok, I need some help on these poems im doing in English about Anthology.
I have done 1 essay on the poems but only got a C-. My teacher said "You've picked good quotations, explained them well, what it suggests but you're finding it hard to compare to the others" Basically i have to compare 4poems in each Paragraph. These are the 4 i chose: Homecoming Anne Hathaway On My First Sonne My Last Duchess. I can't remember the quotations excatly but when i get the Anthology book i will find them out. But could anyone who done this at GCSE help me out on comparing all 4 poems. Thanks A Bunch. ![]() |

I dont want no-one doing my coursework. Its just Anthology, i need help on. Comparing all 4 poems in 1 paragraph is hard. OK i got a C- but my GCSE target for English is a B. So a C- is no good.

Posting the poems may be a start if anyone is generous enough to help you.

You have to look for recurring themes between the poems. I personally don't know any of those so if you actually said what each poem was about I'm sure I'd be able to offer more help.

Post them up and we'll have a swatch.
This may infringe some sort of copyright so any posting of material is done at your own risk. Doubt it though, most of the poets concerned are probably all dead.

If you get any dice out of all of this it'll be the closest thing to a miracle I've ever seen in my life.

Well you should compare what moral values that all poems have.

Compare uses of imagery and symbolism if applicable and the unique ways in which each poem explores either those or its version of a recurring theme between the texts.
Its been a good ten years since I did this so don't expect much more from me. Finding it a bit difficult to believe that you're being required to compare four poems in a single paragraph as that leaves you very little scope for analysis and interpretation. |

I distinctly remember those poem anthology books and our teacher picking the shittest ones out of it. There was some poem about South Africa being a shit hole and one about a Jamaican guy reading the news, written in a vernacular style. I'm not bullshitting, that's how wank it was.

Ok all the poems are Pre 1914.
Homecoming is about a little boy who had his yellow canary jacket trod on at school and when he got home his mum went mad at him so he snuck out and waiting by a pay phone. Anne Hathaway is really sexual. its about memory on how she remembered her husband. On my first Sonne is about a father's son who died and the father regrets loving him too much and says he will never love anything that much again. On my Last Duchess is about a man who remembers his "Last" Wife by looking a painting of her. But we wants to marry the counts daughter. Barn - Yeah the poems where "Half-Caste" and "Unrelated Incidents" The question is this: "Compare how imagery is used in Anne Hathaway by Carrol Ann Duffy, Homecoming by Simon Armitage and any two pre-1914 poems of your choice" We have to pick 16 points 4 from each paragraph and then compare them. |

You are doomed.
If I were you, I'd be happy with the C- and adjust your expectations for further education accordingly, instead of trying to stride for a level of achievement that you're never likely to, well, achieve.
