Ronaldo Flops In Corinthians Fitness Test

Quote:
Seriously overweight and now last in the Corinthians fitness test. It just cannot get worse for Ronaldo, or can it?

Corinthians striker Ronaldo was put through his paces by the Brazilian club, but those who wanted to see some speed were left bitterly disappointed.

The former Milan and Real Madrid striker offered no encouraging signs during Saturday's fitness session as he struggled, and came last out of the 28 squad members during resistance and speed work exercises.

Ronaldo has been trying hard though, but there is still plenty of work to be done if he is to make a quick return to the pitch.

The hit-man was clearly in difficulty as he came up against his leaner teammates.

His fitness coach Flavio De Oliveira knows the results are not good, but he is still harbouring some hope for the player's future fitness.

"We always knew Ronaldo wouldn't fare as good as the other players," De Oliveira is quoted as saying in Il Corriere Dello Sport.

"However, he will get better with time and we are sure of this. "He just needs plenty of training to recover from his injury."

Ronaldo will also need to watch what he eats. Recent reports have suggested Corinthians are not bothered about the player's diet.
The Link is here.

He should just retire in my opinion.

Ronaldo has been coming last in training for a while now, even while at Madrid.

I'm sure he'll still have that burst of speed when needed.

The guy has had injury after injury and his weight issues are no secret... why he keeps doing this to himself is a mystery. He should have a chat with Van Basten, the guy knew when enough was enough.

It can't be easy, especially if that's all you've ever known in life.

yeah give the guy a break, it was his first fitness test in almost a year. His coach recently said Ronaldo is looking very good these days and that he reckons Ronaldo will be very close to the player he was in 2002 when he is fully recovered. Whethere Ronaldo is fat or not, he has more than enough class to come back and still be one of the best strikers in the world. Recent comments actually suggests that Ronaldo is very determined to regain his old form. I reckon all these critics will eat there own words come 2010.

I really really hope so......He is an icon of the modern game, the man is a complete Legend. Hopefully he can bounce back to the glory days. He might not be the fittest guy in the world but class is permanent.

From what people are saying he's determined to get back to his best, i believe he will.

At Milan he wasn't the fittest but gave their attack a whole new dimension! Ronaldo is pure class, and a real ambassodor for the modern game! It's such a pity he was injured half the time throughout his career, I wonder what he would've achieved if he wasn't injured so much. Especially in 98, he never regained the super form of 97,98 after his two serious knee injuries.

i really wish you were my fan
because the way you defend him is top noch.
i agree he was one of the greatest to ever play this sport but taken into consideration how fast the sport is nowadays and the fact that he isn't getting any younger so his injuries will take that much more time to heal don't you think he should just retire.
he leaves the sport on a high note if you ask me just like VAN BASTEN did (someone else already mensioned that and he was right).
although there is nothing like a great comeback for a sporter especially when everyone thinks your down and out it also is a great thing when you know when to stop and don't end up making a fool of yourself.( as MICHAEL JORDAN did with his second comeback if you ask me ).
i don't think he has something to proof so unless he has financial problems i just don't get this.
he lives in BRAZIL for christ sake they have the beaches, the music, and last but not least some of the most beautiful women in the world so their must be something else you can do to your body in that country except punishing it.

Excellent points mate! Brazil does have some of the most beautiful women in the world!

I do agree with you on the whole comeback thing, Michael Jordan made a fool of himself in Washington, and quite frankly there are very few sportstars that made a successful comeback, even Ali failed in his last comeback.

Though I feel Ronaldo will never ever again be the player he was in the late 90's, I still feel he has unfinished business. If he can only regain a place in the Brazil team and retire after 2010, sort of like end his career the way Zidane did in 2006 without the headbutt off course. It makes me sick all these cunts refering to Ronaldo as a fat bastard etc. while he is probably one of the best if not the best footballer they will see in their lives. If he can make one last comeback and prove these fat theories wrong, score a couple of goals in 2010 I will get 1000 orgasms. Plus I really want to see him in South Africa in 2010, since it will be my only chance to see my biggest sporting hero in real life. Though a successful comeback is highly unlikely, I still feel he has the drive and class to perform well at the highest level.

I think we could be exact doubles man! What you said is exactly what ive been sayin to my firends for years!I will be going to the WC2010 hopefully to see him in action aswell!Hes doing the right thing i feel waiting till he is fully fit to return not rushing anything!Sure ronaldos comeback when he was "finished" in 2002 shows how much passion he has for the game!Goes and wins the world cup for brazil! In 1998 if he had been in a right state of mind he would have done the same!Lets hope he can do it again in 2010!

well that's not unthinkable because he's got a year to improve if he wants to make the WORLD CUP and at the moment BRAZIL doesn't have a striker i can think of with the killer instinct that he has so not unthinkable at all.
i hope he doesn't overdue it and get's injured again though cos that will make the chance that much slimmer.
the biggest problem you face though in my opinion when you want to get back in shape in a country like BRAZIL, especially when you've got money and speak the language is the amount of distractions available i already mensioned them in my previous post so if you ask me he would be better of at a european team to really get back in the best shape he can and not have the problem to see all those DISTRACTIONS everywhere you look.
