Well, after five years of excellent service, it appears that my iPod has decided to call it quits. It's shown indications of dying over the past couple of months. It would occasionally stop and show the "connect to your computer...use iTunes to restore" screen. For a quick fix, I would hold Menu and the middle button together to restart the iPod and all is well. Over the past month, it would happen more frequently. But now (for about a week), all it shows is the error screen. Basically, I can't play any music, or any other media, on it.
Even if I connect it to the computer, iTunes would rarely recognise it; and if it does, it cannot restore it. Well, you can press restore and it goes through the process, but the next time you connect the iPod, it tells you it needs to be restored again, and it's a loop. I've uninstalled and re-installed iTunes, but it doesn't make a difference. Is there any way I can resurrect my iPod, or has it reached the end of its life?

30gb from 2005. I don't know what generation that makes it. It's not an iPod Touch.

Thanks. It's a 5th generation iPod. Since my PC also died - it wasn't a great birthday - I'm having to use my work PC to look for solutions (for both iPod and Windows XP issues).
