History in the making?

Is it just me? Or is this an unusual feeling as we get closer to the release of PES2010.

I dont quite think that I have been anxious to buy a title as I am with PES2010 ever.... It's clear that this is a new kind of beast, the game itself.

It feels to me that PES2009 was the last of the "traditional WINNING ELEVEN/PES" entries into the landmark series. Whether that's a good or bad thing is anyone's guess. The answer to those thoughts will be revealed the day we get our hands on PES2010.

2010 is the version for KONAMI that must succeed because if it doesn't, it'll be practically "game over" for pes for awhile.

Konami is in a very unique position. There are 3 options for them:

1. Fail miserably, and with it, bury the franchise for a long time ( not necessarily not make the game, but just put out bad games that are inferior to FIFA )

2. A mediocre game that has potential but doesnt quite reach its intended heights greatness, nor does it fall to the depths of badness.

3. or, will they single-handedly redefine and shake the very foundations of the gaming industry by, not just reinventing thfootball/soccer, but the whole sports genre, truly sending it into next-gen glory ( because as far as I am concerned there is still not one FOOTBALL title on the market that's truly NEXT GEN besides the graphics themselves ).

Konami may or may not know what's at stake but us consumers know very well that they MUST deliver.

I think that all the hype about the 2010 edition of PES is because of what you said, this year it's do or die for most pepole.
I already heared of many PES fans who moved to FIFA because this and last year's failure, or have stayed because of the BAL feature.
Most of the pepole said they're going to move to FIFA if PES 2010 doesn't live to the hopes of it.
This is the last chance to regain those lost PES fans and show superiority over FIFA.
I personally won't move to FIFA because I just don't like playing it and it feels weird and uncomfortable to play it after playing PES al these years.
I don't think this will "shake the world of football gaming" and dominate this genre.

I think this will turn out to be a great game, the one we hoped PES 2009 to be, with big improvements and addings, but it isn't going to be ahead of FIFA by alot, if even so.

my heart is saying it'll be a great game but my head says it'll fail compered to fifa. don't forget, fifa won't be releasing the same game this year, they'll make different things happen too. who knows, maybe it'll be fifa that pull an ace from their sleeve and rock the football gaming industry....then again though, if you look at the history books you'll find fifa copyied pes in main areas in the past

regardless of failure or success, i'll be sticking to pes. i'm not a plastic fan who fucks off when konami go through a wee sticky 2 year period.

Well said mate, i have been sticking by PES too although i have to admit that i have currently borrowed a mates copy of FIFA 09 just to try it out & also just pick up a few easy trophies on the PS3 but when it comes to the crunch towards the end of the year, i'll still be getting PES 2010 over FIFA 2010.

There's no such thing as a "plastic" fan of a football game. It's not like the team you support, you should just play the best game whether it be Fifa or PES. And it's defo Fifa right now, coming from somebody who has played ISS/PES for 16 years prior to Fifa 09 coming out and kicking the shit out of PES 09.

Back in the day, I could see PES' superiority, and I was a kid, PES really offered what was the 'next-gen experience' at the time, but quite frankly, EA have provided that next-gen experience within FIFA whilst I feel Konami haven't offered much in comparison.

The online mode in PES has been filled with criticism, the gameplay has been questioned over and over again, and the fact that PES6, 08, and 09 (for the 360) have actually offered a step backwards in terms of features, I gotta say Konami kind have deserve the place they're in right now.

I gotta agree with the sticking it through point, I won't buy and keep playing a football game if I absolutely hate it, even if Konami have offered a greater experience for the past majority of years.

That said I really hope 10 will level the playing field, but from a money and business stand-off, I doubt Konami will make any fundamental changes until sales take a serious dip compared to FIFA.

Oh I never said I will buy PES regardless...I am just saying if PES2010 is not up to par...I wont have a footie to play.

FIFA just has NEXT GEN graphics in my opinion...that's it.
I agree that overall FIFA 09 is better then PES2009 but I still enjoy PES2009 more.

^I still say that both pes 09 and fifa 09 could have been much better if you take a look at some next gen games. And no fifa 09 doesn't kick pes 09. It's just a matter of what you prefer. Fifa's graphics (when there's a close up) are really bad for xbox 360 and ps3. I really mean it. This is coming from someone who has both games and plays both of them. No fanboyism.
I already mentioned the bad things of pes 09.
Well, now, let's hop pes 10 will be AWESOME and truly next gen.

I for one will always play PES over FIFA alot of people i know switched to FIFA this year but i PES only has one thing it is that you are in controll! everything still feels to slow/sluglish and automatic on FIFA for me and even if PES2010 only has a graphicly update and minor changes ill still be a happy camper!!!!!!

Why can we all hope for TWO great games?

I owned both games and enjoyed both games for the last 8 months.

I am a gamer not a shareholder of Konami or EA. So if they both make great games I win.

In my opinion PES 5 on PS2 was the best I still play that now.

On PS3 playing PES 2009 is sometimes stupid and really p*sses me off. For example, the other day, I was playing a friend and I slid Cristiano Ronaldo with Dani Alves perfect tackle, got the ball and everything and then I got sent off. On another occasion my friend had an open goal but Iniesta hit the ball and missed an open goal 3yrds out and he got a corner for it!

Also, on Top Player when you are running at a defender and you think you've gotten past him because the defender is crap, he clamps you with a amazing slide tackle. Is it me or are the slide tackles a bit too perfect?

And so, from now on I'm not playing next gen versions of the game.

Where's the advantage rule aswell hardly see it in the game. Konami need to step up. But that's just my opinion.
