Start of ML, all low scoring games

I've just started a ML season, and having used one of the kit updates, I have all the Championship teams in my Division 2, and the Premiership in, well, the Premiership! Every game apart from 2 (I'm almost at January in the first season) has ended either 0-0, or 1-0 - most of the time to me, but occasionally to the computer. The other 2 games were a 2-0 win and a 3-0 defeat. I thought this may be because I'm using edited teams who are too defensive, but in the FA cup I managed to beat Spurs, and yep you guessed it 1-0!

I'm using the default master league players, and I like to play attacking football, the reason i'm not scoring many is because these players are shocking, but i'm still not really letting any goals in. I'm playing on Top Player and i'm hoping that as I get better players and play better teams then i'll get more exciting games... Is this the case? Otherwise this is going to be a very boring ML!!

Well it seems natural when getting better players, the team will get better and thereby create more chances - and score more goals. It takes time (as you obviously know playing as castolo and co.) I started as FC Copenhagen and having only a few good players, i mostly won 1 or 2-0 or drew as you..
Then i signed a few players on loan transfers and then the results got more stabile. However my biggest win is still only 4-0. (which i find realistic)

Yes, I have played ML before, many times on previous games, but it's never been quite as dull as this one. I was hoping that if I was playing poorly (as some of the 0-0's I have been in) I would be getting a fair few goals scored against me, but they don't even seem to create many chances... As for me scoring goals, then yes I know it's because I need better players.

Thanks for your reply Rasmus, hopefully it'll get more interesting soon enough!

without sounding patronising i think the more you get used to the game + your players the more likely goals are. i got used to playing as Birmingham City and where as at first i was drawing 0-0 with Hull i now just beat them 5-1. Obviously the better sides defend higher up and what not so it is harder and these games become more of the 1-0 and 0-0 games. Adds to the realism IMO.

Nah man!! On Top Player in Master League in previous years especially last year I was battering teams 5-0, 6-0, with teams like City or Everton. Master League has always been easy!!

Have you tried playing longer games. I play between 15-20 min games and I've had all sorts of results playing with Hull. I have a 0-0, beat Liverpool 1-0 playing 10 guys behind the ball, and then went on to beat Wigan 3-2 in a back forth encounter.

Also, what option file are you using with the Championship teams. Thats the one I've been looking for. I'm probably going to add Leeds to it when I get it.

This was always a problem with ML, the AI not good enough to score but neither are your players to begin with. Just goes back to a point I made earlier that the AI seems a lot more negative this time around, just keeping possession, passing the ball around but getting nowhere.

Rasmus - I'm playing on Top Player.
RN50 - It's nothing to do with me not being good enough, i'm winning or drawing most of the games either 1-0 or 0-0, with the odd 1-0 defeat thrown in. I'm worried about the lack of goals.

I was thinking it could be the time of the matches, as Mr Mark said, i'm doing 10 minute matches, but I don't have that much time to play on the game anymore, what with work and a social life, so putting the games too long means it'll take me far too long to complete the seasons... I'm a bit worried that as soon as I get some good players instead of winning 1-0 or drawing 0-0 i'm gonna be winning 3-0 and 2-0 all the time!

It's as Douglas says, the comp just keeps possession and doesn't try to hurt or score against me. If i'm playing bad I want to lose, not draw 0-0!

I defo don't remember the games being quite so low scoring in ML on the previous games. Option file is sammy_k's one for the PC, the latest one has Championship teams in it, except mine now has Bournemouth!

I don't score too many goals either - but still think it's realistic (my biggest win remains 4-0) In pes09 we could easily win 6-0 over united being ifk goteborg. These easy scoring situations are not in 2010 in my opinion. Maybe that's why we score less goals.. I like it though.

I know what youre saying. But im sure that has to do with the fact that you just need more practice.

My ML isnt going too well either, I'm currently 6-3-4 with Man U. No wins at home btw.....

but the problem is, the 4 loses were all goals that were blunders, it was never a "ok they deserved that goal" type of win, and that fuckin sucks. The goalkeeper AI has got to go, and the defense is just ilke wtf...... why isnt the cpu defense on my team the same as the opposing cpu...... right

^ About the defence, what annoys me the most is that sometimes i can't switch the cursor to the most obvious player - being the one closest to the opponent's striker in ball possesion. Conceed most goals due to this because he just run like a mad man, and the closest defender does nothing.
This very same problem occured many times in pes09 as well.
