Your top 5 PES games
Was having a talk with a mate(fifa player) about our favourite football games of all time, with PES 2012 on the horizon and with pes 2011 being out for a while now thought I would create this thread to see your all time top football games.
1. PES 2011 Despite hideous flaws, this game makes me think football and thats what matters to me. Took to long for konami to get to this stage though. 2 . PES 5 The ultimate polished football game, seamless and almost flawless, for me the series hit its peak with this title. 3 . PES 3 A truly revolutionary game that set the benchmark to come, smooth animations great AI and fantastic ball physics took PES to the next level. Attention to detail in almost every aspect, this game even had stadium specific nets, konami thought of everything. 4 . PES(first ps2 titile) Almost the pes 2011 of the ps2 days, not flawless but set the foundations for future titles, plus the sheer joy of having a PES title on the ps2 was fantastic. 5. ISS EVO 2(PS1) Another revolutionary pes game, I spent the entire school holidays playing ML and effectively fucked my mates off for this wonderful game. |

Mine will be newschool, because I only converted from FIFA in about 2004...
1 - PES 6 - This year's effort came close, but this still rules the roost for me. It just felt right. A perfect combination of the simplicity of the old games, with more modern refinements. 2 - PES 2011 - That's right I went there. People are moaning like fuck about it, but this is the first one that feels like a current gen game. Hugely reworked from 2010, this really ticks all the boxes for me, and I don't care if 2012 isn't great because I won't be bored of this. 3 - PES 4 - The one that really got me into the series. Not graphically that impressive, but played like a dream back late 2004. Made me fall in love with PES. 4 - PES 3 - As SDP said, the one that really bumped it up a level. Football video games were no longer arcadey 'shoot from 35 yards out and have a 50/50 chance of scoring' affair, probably the first really realistic one, of any series. 5 - PES 2009 - Wasn't amazing, but I still had alot of fun with it. Kept alot of the stuff that we knew and loved, and refined it a little bit more. Guilty of being a little too FIFAish in terms on gameplay on occasion.

Loved PES 6 but had some weird flaws, I think konami got to the stage with 6 where they couldn't really improve it.
Almost forgot about pes 4, first PES game with full leagues licensed and was almost perfect gameplay wise, it had a lovely fluidity about it. |

![]() Pes 11 and pes 5 are close. Very close. Pes 11 plays more like football overall but has stupid flaws that sometimes ruin it and pes 5 is seamless and plays very good but lack the tactical stuff that make pes 11 so good. I mean the formations AND PLAYERS OBEYING YOU and the individuality in pes 11 is better aswell.

Lets hope pes 2012 combines the depth of pes 2011 with flawlessness and polish of pes 5, if that happens I think pes 2012 will stand alone as the best of the best. Despite me ranking pes 2011 number 1 I agree about its stupid flaws and at times it causes pure frustration, pes 2011 is certainly rough around the edges and that was certainly not the case with pes 5 or 6 for that matter. |

^Exactly. Pes 5 and the ps3 games felt much more polished and their flow was better and more seamless.
But pes 11 makes some things much better than 5 and 6. Tactics and individuality (when you're controlling the player) are much better for example. And yes, if pes 12 fixes the cursor glitching, defenders catching up and makes the overall flow seem seamless and smoother, then it would be the best pes for sure.

2012 does have the potential to be brilliant. Hopefully they'll just have tinkered, rather that trying to make wholesale changes.

One thing I like is how konami actually seem to be focused on footballing improvements rather than pretentious sounding gameplay tweaks(looking at you fifa) they seem to be aiming the game at the hardcore rather than telling people what they want to hear. |

1) PES 5
This really was the bee's knees, the dog's bollock's, the hamster's....... errmm.... giblets when it comes to PES games. Not much else I can say that hasn't been said. 2) ISS Pro Evo 2 Though the first Pro Evo was my first ever ISS game, ISS PE2 was the game that really hooked be onto the series. Spend hours and hours on master league alone, having plenty of battles with my brother. This was back in the days when you could just plonk it on a memory card. Unfortunately, it all turned to tears, where in a moment of PES Rage (or ISS Rage as it was known), I threw my brother's memory card at the wall, losing all his data. ![]() 3) PES 4 This was the first PES game where they really loosened (for lack of a better word) up the dribbling. I remember when my mate bought it in my first year of Uni.... the utter joy of taking over Okocha (at Bolton of course) and destroying everyone with mazy dribbles was beautiful. 4) PES 6 Though very similar to PES 5, I still hold very fond memories of this game, particularly the master league of course. 5) PES 2011 Whilst it doesn't hold up to the quality of earlier PES games, I have chosen this one as sort of an honourable mention, because I feel that it's a step in the right direction after the failure's of the previous games, and it has rekindled some of the love I had for the game. I don't play it much anymore because of it's well-documented flaws.... but still. Hopefully, this game will be regarded as the PES 2012: Prologue.

Really, really interesting. And I'm with a couple of you on this, DESPITE my criticisms of PES2011, it is still (even compared to PES 5/6) the game that gives me the most headache, the most gratification, makes me think about tactics and players etc etc, more than any other football game.
So here goes - And this is an overall package which includes a dozen variables - 1) Yep I'm going there too, PES 2011. Flawed in some areas, player switching is a pain in the ass, some through balls go through defenders legs, some shots get parried back into play when a simple tip round the corner would do, some hideous scripting on times - BUT - for all that, it is still the game I come back to again and again again. For me it touches a raw nerve, plays right on my emotions, you have to factor everything into the game to get the most out of it, player form, who you're playing, whether home or away, whether it's raining (pitch makes ball slower), whether you want to play passing, counter, the angle of body when shooting, the passing system, all makes, for me, when it gets it right, a truly excellent experience. 2) I'm going with PES6. Slightly arcadey, maybe? But I believe that this game had the FUN/REALISM balance just about right. Spent like a million hours on this, Master League was sublime. Possibly the best overall PES in terms of the complete product in it's particular era. Pipped only by PES2011 just because of the way technology has moved on and graphics etc. 3) PES5 - brilliant game 4) PES4 5) PES3 Having just played PES5 and 6 a lot recently they are really wonderful games, fantastic. But I just feel that I have found of way of defending too well against the CPU, probably because things like player switching and the defensive AI of my team is so, so good. This kind of brings me to my next thoughts. In PES 2011, you never, 100% feel in TOTAL control of the result, maybe because of the above issues I bring up, but thats what makes it sweeter in my eyes, even for the frustrations. Does Man Utd pitch up against Blackpool and always expect the game to go their way? No. And that's what I love about PES 2011, you can turn over Arsenal 2-1 hitting them on the counter with beautiful football, and then you can lose 2-0 to Villa home conceding two Heskey bullet headers. Ironically, I've started loving PES2011 again after a two month break, which I believe does a world of good. It really is a game you have to work on. I've also totally re-changed my defensive philosophies after playing PES5/6 and have realised that my defending pressing was too aggressive before. I'm defending far more patiently/realistically, giving the opposition far more possession than I used to, but keeping far more clean sheets. I think a change from the next gen stuff back to the old school stuff also does wonders, just to get your defensive patterns and movement back in top notch, as they really were more hardcore than the modern stuff. |

Nice post techboy, especially agree with your thoughts on pes 2011. There are times when 11 has its spastic moments and I think to myself why do I sing this games praises on pes gaming so much, but for me the good outweighs the bad.
Glad to see others getting the best out of pes 2011, thought it was just me and matt ![]() |

PES 2011 as well - Can't remember what PES 5/6 to well.
PES 2009, despite not being realistic in the slightest, the fact that you could run through a whole team and boggle the minds of Carvalho with dribbling from a defender meant that you could run from box to box with any player. End to end stuff. However slightly frustrating against Barce, especially with Eto'o being faster than Usain bolt and Messi being himself. ![]() |
