Logo's image size

I'm quite new to team editing and I'm having a massive problem with some custom logos cause when I import them they come out too big and when reducing the size the image gets all fuzzy and stuff and it doesn't look good anymore.
So I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to point out the next few things:

-Ideal canvas size for the images
-Resolution
-Format

Thanks!

Use the size of 128x128 for club logos and 256x256 for league logos

You can use mostly the png's you find on wikipedia for example those are most the time excellent for ingame use.

e.g. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitória_Guimarães click on the logo until its biggest, save it and resize it That easy!
