How do you man mark?

I can't find how when you choose tactics and starting 11. I used to always man mark in PES 2010 and reckon it's costing me games not knowing how to do this.

On PS3, in the game plan screen, press square on the defender you want to man to man mark with then choose man marking

in pes 2012 when you are in attack players act very clever. when defending it's the total opposite. due to the lack of defending player cards it's more or less impossible to play offside or man marking...

Every time i play man marking in this years game it seems to backfire.

man-marking is bugged on gameplan as in thorugh balls they just magically get past the strikers marker

Naah it's better to do without it. Even though you have a decent defender to man mark, they always get dusins of through balls forward to the man he is supposed to mark in my opinion. It has worked out better just being patient when defending, for me at least. Try using R2 while holding X (if you're on ps3) Once you master it, you minimize the chance of conceeding too many cheap goals. Furthermore this feature actually gives one the opportunity to slow down the pace of the game and your other defenders get back in position if opposing team has a counter attack.

man marking has worked wonders for my defense... ever since I started man marking super teams like Real and Barca i've had much better time stopping them and containing their stars.

This is what I do, its similar to what I used to do in PES2010 which had fast players without the catchup bug, in 2011 you didn't need to man mark because of this flaw. I think this is why ppl find defending so hard this year beacuse of the defensive assist/catch up in 2011. Ok so I man mark with 2 players, you basically swarm and crowd the marked player making it hard for passes to get to him. Then ... your external defenders, if you can make them CBs and play them deep to prevent the side line running to cross scenarios. If you play too far up they will through pass you and get free, if you have them deep they can't do this, then its up to you to trap them with your 2nd defender and use R2 to keep them infront of you.
