Just give it some time, until "teamwork" attribute improves (about mid-season) ^^ You will see lot better teamplay (defensively and offensively) then, just like in BAL. Player overall ratings need to improve as well.
It's allways good to start pretty defensively, i.e. only 1 striker, tight formation in the defense, etc.
And of course...practise defense. R2+X to slow down attacker while calling teammate to help, works for me. For the offense, you'll need to send your striker almost every time with R3.

yeah but if i play defensively then i can't secure promotion to la liga as my chairman set it for my target. Your right about waiting for teamwork to improve.
i'll probably need an allround cf if i'm going to play one striker and probably an agility king

Well, you need to play defensively at first, because your teamwork is weak, your defenders and midfielders are weak -> may not get a goal against you, that's first priority. If that's ensured, you can still try to shoot a goal somehow. Worst case, you end up even and get 1 point -> at mid-season you're placed ~10th. Usually you'll score a goal every now and then (after quarter-season you're gameplay and strikers improved -> easier to score goal), get 3 points and end up with less than 10points difference to league's first (all teams are very close). Now that you still improve, the chairman's goal is quite reachable.

Schwarz and Ordaz are good as strikers, use the one with the better mood, or switch after half-time. As offensive midfielder, get Shimizu After few games, you should be able to play some nice passes to your striker with him. And don't hesitate to shoot from distance with them.

I ended up 14th-17th after quarter-season, then slowly improved (didn't lose anymore), even got better and won a few games. Now, mid-season, I'm 7th with 7 points less than 1st. But I bought a goalkeeper first (~73 value), to make sure they score less goals against me ^^

yeah but i need dome strategy if i want shimizu to pass into space so i reckon to have ahigher player support/
If i play defensively, i still let in goals from corners or from free kicks or msitakes by goalies or thorugh balls so is there a way to make your defenders be really back and mark like compactness or pressing

Well, before game, you can set your best defender to stick to one player (maybe the one mentioned by your coach). That could help.
Free-kicks: Easier said than done, but simply foul less ^^ And if they get a direct free-kick position, move your defender in front of the goal so that either your goalie gets the ball or you can clean it by a header.
Corner: They're mostly shot the same way, so move your automatically acitvated defender slightly to the direction of the ball and you can almost always head it away.

I'm not saying to play completely defensively (I mean, you obviously need to win ^^), but have a solid defense, and then build up a good offense. Play the strategy that suits you best (I prefer counter). You'll usually need to pass around a bit until other offensive players are in position for an attack play...they're slow ^^.
Best training for this: Try to get "gold" in all defense training categories. And the "R3" training is very helpful for your offense.

I for myself have Palimiere and Schmidt/Jaric at defense. Sold Baumann pretty soon, if I remember correctly he was lot weaker at defense (don't just look at overall ranking, look at basic defense relevant ones).

if i use quick counter, it means i have ahigh defensive line and a more attackive line or do you mean something else. Also when i selected all out defense, it gives me a good formation aswell as things like a low defensive line.
At free kicks, i normally move my goalkeepr a bit closer to his near post so i solved that but at corners i guess it's chance if a player gets ahead of my defender. I'll try using man-marking and after playing my first game the strategy was quite good despite the scoreline being 1-1 with their goal coming from my keeper throwing it to an attacker who just scores the open net.

Also my next match, my oppostion are playing very defensively with one striker and five defenders so shoud i take the risk and play all out attack or should i just sswith to defence or just hit them on the counter?

Not necessarily. You can play counter and still have a low defensive line (although they wouldn't play a significant role in the counter then). My counter usually consists of my striker and 3 midfield players. Few passe around till striker is near their last defender -> R3 and try a deadly pass to the striker. Pass gets often intercepted, but the higher the teamwork attribute, the better it works. Schwarz is good for that, as he has good shooting attributes and can shoot right after getting the ball (no need to dribble very close to the goal).

Sounds like everyone has brought up Shimizu from the youth team. Even i who absolutely hate these young fake players have brought him up. Never ever did this in pes until now.
Regarding the formation talks: Try play with very wide lmf/rmf or lw/rw if using three strikers. I mean on the tactics board move them all the way out to their respective sides. Then during the game by using r3 you control the winger/smf and make a through ball to him then make a long cross (i prefer holding L1 or r2 combined with a double tap O (ps3) That way they seem to hit the CF pretty often. I seem to score many goals on long passes from the flanks this year. Don't know about you guys?

How is that any different from the default ML squad? All fakes, so why not buy Shimizu?

I used 4-3-3 with possession game for D2, seemed to work well but you have to build the play slowly. I got absolutely hammered in D1 with that formation though, so i switched to 4-4-2 (quick counter) and have an easier time defending counters

On Shimizu, he is good but im looking to replace him he is a bit too small for my liking and just try shooting with him lol his power is pathetic!

I play a 4-2-2-1-1 formation, with your standard defensive line, two central midfielders around the half way line, two wingers, a centre forward and a supporting striker playing directly behind them, i find this formation works for me really well

i play 4 3 3, but have pre set the strategies to 1- standard, 2- counter attack, 3- all out attack, 4 - full defence 5 3 2....

yeah and most of my goals occur from lofted thru balls from midfielders/wingers to attackers, or crosses from the flank, both grounded and lofted...
