Headers/Crosses

I've been playing PES since day one and have never had any problems scoring headers or crossing the ball, but in PES 2013 I can't, for the life of me, cross accurately or header accurately, it's like every single header just ends up floating harmlessly over the bar, or wide.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have been trawling the internet looking for answers and/or a tutorial on this issue. I think the ugly truth is that the heading/crossing system in PES 2013 isn't working properly because it isn't complete. With many other games devs, this is the sort of thing that one may expect to be fixed in a patch, but not with Konami. It will be PES 2014 before this is fixed.

As for now, it seems like Konami are trying to make the crossing and heading a bit more sophisticated. Whenever I win a header outright, I nearly always have to be manouvering my attacker (who heads ball) other than just letting the AI sort out the positioning. Also, if your player is under sort of pressure at all, then it is often a better option to try and knock the ball on or lay it off than go for goal. I kind of like this as it leads to a lot more scrapping and frantic penalty area action and in this respect, crossing can still be dnagerous in PES 2013.

So, that is what I am doing for the meeting headers side of things, but as for the crossing? Well, I find that a normal cross will always hit the back post, which means that if I point towards the opposite wing when making a cross, I am going to hit the ball way further than the dnagerzone in front of goal. To reliably get the ball into the zone in front of goal, I find that I need to push the joystick (after the cross button has been activated) either oppossite from direction of the ball and/or in the opposite direction of the goal. Of course, this leads to a much more floaty cross which is easier for the defenders to latch onto so again, it is often a better option to knock the ball on than to head on goal.

As for those times when your striker is unmarked and a simple crossed ball should really and truly be enough, only for you to find that the ball goes whizzing over his head or he makes the wrong run? Well, that is just a load of old AI manipulated bollox that says to me that the crossing/heading system is not finished, so they have had to botch the crossing in the meantime in the name of preserving balance. This is a bit like the ultra-nerfed shooting in PES 2012 disguising the incomplete/wonky goalkeeping AI.

I find that pushing the stick back( the opposite direction of where the player is facing) gives you a 100 per cent of the time the ball in the right area. This is great but I have yet to score, either the keeper saves it or I miss the header. But I am still at it. I also find that the player finds the ball a lot more too(actually making contact). But as I said I am yet to score!

I scored few times and there is nothing wrong with it IMO, although I have to admit that I used to score a lot more on PES 2012 with headers.

Headers are essentially broken. I've made contact with pacey crosses and I still end up doing a looping header that sails over the bar at 1 MPH. They might as well take them out.

I dont think there is anything 'broken' with the headers as such, I just think that Konami have had to nerf them on purpose to disguise other short-fallings in the AI. I like the way in which thier crossing/heading is going, but as things stand in PES 2013, it is in a very incomplete state.

They can certainly be scored and they certainly can fly in like bullets, but as you suggest, when you attempt to score from a header from a crossed ball, the chances of anything good coming from it are very low indeed, which does not reflect the real game at all. Instead, you are better advised to hold up the ball (allowing all opposition to get back and defend) and try and weave your way into box and create a shooting opportunity that way, which again, does not reflect the real game at all.

in PES 2012 90% of my goals were scored with head.... in PES 2013 1%

but ok... PES is PES.

they always must fuck something up. But I'll be honest. PES 2013 is the best PES so far.

I don't have a problem with the way headers were done. I haven't scored off many, but more times than not, if my cross is accurate and I have position on the defender in the box, it's a goal. I have seen the CPU score on several flicks off the head that weren't straight on, which I thought was very well done, but have yet to score this way myself.

Headers are all about timing , it is essential to try to hit the shoot button in the last possible moment, when you almost feel that the ball is going to fly over your player. Try it.

Sure they are.

Why is it that for every post there is is in a web forum stating something that is patently flawed in a game there is always someone else who says "its just your lack of skillz man, trying patting your head three times whilst rubbing your belly and then do it"?

FYI, I have played a few matches v the CPU, with Bayern München (best wingers in the game) V some D random D rated team, with difficulty set to amateur. In these games, I only ever try and score from crosses and due to the n00b difficulty level it means I can virtually just run to tochline everytime and cross the ball in. Out of 50 or so crosses I rarely ever score one goal! I have tried all manner of different methods to make this aspect of the game work but it just doesn't. The heading is BROKEN.

Accept that please.

I totally agree, all Konami needs to do is just add a freaking patch to fix it and ad league mode and boom best football game ever!

I was not trying to defend konami , I was trying to be constructive and to help the man to be better at it! I am pretty sure that you are an expert for football and football games, and that you know much more about it than I do , but I never sad that it helps every time, just for me it works better that way. About rubbing and patting , well I guess that you are an expert in that area to.

At first I thought it was broken but actually it is all about timing, also player header stats, you can't simply just press shoot you must time it, the taller your player the better chance from missing all headers I now get 70% on target it's more realistic just buy zigic if you think it's broken..

Even if it were just the case that the PES gaming community at large has not yet sussed out the heading technique, there is still the small matter of crossing the ball.

No matter how easy the cross should be, the amount of times the ball goes spinning past the strikes or flying over thier heads, is unreal.

Last year Konami borked the shooting in order to hide the broken goalkeeping AI. A small tweak here and there to the heading/crossing would make it work a treat (as some of the gameplay mods will no doubt demonstrate to us later in the year), so that tells me that Konami are trying to hide/compensate for a short falling elsewhere in game engine.
