DVD/CD Writer hardware
Before I am verbally attacked for not searching. I have done but, could only answer some of the very confused, I haven't a clue newbie (to patching anyways) questions that a lot of you must be sick of answering. But, I do have a few more that may make me sound absolutely clueless but, I assure you I'm not until someone says the words 'patching'.
OK, the situatuion is that I want to patch my PES3. But, when I was looking around for an external DVD/CD Writer for my laptop, I was told by one of the people I spoke to that if I wanted to do this sort of thing the best thing to do would be to ask in forums such as this to see what others do. So please if you could help me out with these I will try not to bother you again. General PS2 information: V4 PS2 PAL (not mod-chipped). General Laptop information: IBM ThinkPad 600E Intel Pentium II Windows 2000 Setting up my computer for burning: I have now ordered my Slide Card/Magic Swap disc for £16.72 from http://www.console24.com Is this all I need to play a CD-R/DVD-R backup disc of PES3? I know there is a guide but, I still wasn't sure if you stil needed your PS2 chipped. It says that I can also play import movies/games is this also true? Any suggestions on what is the best media to use for burning DVD's/CD's? I have been told Verbatim are good, any other suggestions? I would like to add a DVD/CD external writer to my old laptop, will this make a difference to the type of writer I can buy? Any suggestions of sites that are good (ie cheap) for these sort of things? How much should I expect to pay? Is there a particular model that you (ie the person who is kind enough to answer these questions) use and/or recommend that definitely does a good job? Is there any other hardware I will need? Thanks in advance for your help. |

Verbatim is good TDK is good, the local cd-rs arent good like Dixons and market cd-rs. Most important thing is that you cant look through the cd when you held him in the sun.
BTW Can you play DVD-R with a Slide Card?? I dont think so... Where is Jag?? |

www.rlsupplies.co.uk www.overclockers.co.uk are 2 sites I would recommend, I use a LG DVD Writer and have had no problems in patching WE7I with REDUX 2.0 and burning to a DVD-R, I also use Sony CD's to burn PES3 with jonboyos 5.1.04 patch and have had no problems burning at 24x speed on my notebook, hope this helps

yes u can play dvdr with swap magic and flip top (btw - the flip top is only external casing - it has no effect on the loading,, its better to have a fliptop because it just makes it easier to swap the disks over, none of this swap trick card method business.)
the only problem with the swap magic cdr boot disk is that it only boots games up to 632mb in size, to play 632mb to 800mb games you need to also have the breaker pro disk, which resets the laser. However if ur ps2 is chipped this is not an issue as the chip controls the laser.

Thanks again. I am getting a lot clearer now on a lot of the things I will need to do to make my own backups. Your advice has been very helpful.
