It's likely the dust is a factor in their problems. Like all electrical equipment, vents should be kept clear to allow air to flow & cooling to work efficiently. It's a sad fact that the older you get, the more you enjoy hoovering vents. :no:

Why? PS3 has a pretty good record for reliability all things (and Xbox) considered. Got my 60Gb on release day & only problem is i have to keep hoovering it. It's a friggin' dust magnet compared to my 360...

As it's an update I doubt highly they would charge for it. Based on previous occasions, it's likely an automatic update. My personal feeling is gameplay/online issues rather than squad updates though...
