Yes Brian Lara Cricket is the better of the two. Cricket 2005 is just an annual update and doesn't seem to improve much, like FIFA (it is EA Sports after all), whereas Brian Lara has made a huge step up from the PSone game. Brian Lara even includes a classic mode where you can play in black and white.

The graphics are very similar and are pretty accurate. Both games have a host of licenses, but Cricket has much more. But Brian Lara only has international teams (I think) where Cricket 2005 has both English and Australian County sides. But where Brian Lara really shines is the gameplay and lifespan where it hits Cricket 2005 for 6 (;)). Brian Lara is a lot easier to play and less difficult. My obvious choice is Brian Lara, although it depends what you want - gameplay or official licenses?

(My apologies if Brian Lara has counties, I didn't think there was, but I'm not sure.)

Cricket 2004 was piss easy. I won everything on Hard mode, scored 800 in one innings once ;) The CPU nearly always bowls at the same pace so its just about learning the timing for each bowler.
