Few Backup Questions

Ok, ive had a read and researched into some of the methods to play backups/imports on your ps2. Just after some personal opinion which is best out of these two methods as i want to purchase one of the following:

PS2 R Key with swap magic (how do i know what version my ps2 is the chip comes in different versions correct?)

Flip top lid and swap magic

Also could someone point me in the direction of a tutorial to make ps2 backups? Im guessing it involves burning an image like you would to backup a pc game? And finally...how does the swap magic part work? To my understanding its a boot disk which you put in before you put the backup disk in correct?

Thanks in advance

Your model number on your PS2 (or PSTwo) is located on the back of your machine (should be SCPH##### or similar). Swap Magic works a treat and all you do is boot one of the discs you recieve (DVD or CD boot disc depending on the type of game your back-up is) and then insert your back-up by opening the disc tray BUT NOT by pressing eject as this will tell the PS2 that you are changing the disc, hence the flip-top or slide-card.

Then just press 'X' and your away! Wait till you've played patched PES5, you will never, ever go back! Good luck!

Ok thanks so you would recommend flip top over the chip? And are there any tutorials on how to create a backup ps2 game?

I would recommend a chip actually, but slide cards work as well. Chips, such as the DMS3 or the Messiah usually have less problems as some games do not run using a slide card and you have to apply fixes etc to the image before burning etc. But PES5 and most other games work fine.

To make an image of a game just download DVD Decrypter and insert your original game into your PC. Choose 'Read' or 'Create ISO' (can't even remember what it says now!), and then it will automatically make an image called an ISO in the folder of your choice. Apply the patches you want to this ISO.

Good luck!

P.S there are usually good guides on creating ISO's at the beginning of every patching guide.

Ok and finally, must you burn the iso as a dvd-r using a dvd rewriter? Or can you burn the image simply onto a cd-r using a normal cd writer?
Thanks you have been alot of help

Chips should only be installed by experts unless you don't mind the risk of destroying your PS2.

dvd images are to be burnt onto dvd-rs
cd images are to be burnt onto cd-rs

Or you can use the ripkit which cuts the size of a dvd image down so it fits onto a CD - although at the moment the ripkit only seems to work with patched dvd images and not the original.

Also I believe the ps2 R Key is only available for ps2 versions 4 and upwards..is this the case with the flip top lid method?
