I always use manual man-to-man marking on PES, as zonal just ends up with my defenders going away with the fairies at set pieces and crosses, leading to free headers for opponents. However, on PES 2008 on the PC (offline), I've noticed that, for some reason, it often won't let me mark the final player in the opponents' team (usually their CF). In this situation I have to go to the match start screen and then back again, often as many as 10 or 15 times, before it'll let me man-mark properly. I assume it's intended by the PES team, because there's a little "er-errrr - does not compute" sound that goes with it. Is there a reason for this, can I fix it or is my game just buggered?
