Ah, the infamous yellow light of death. It happens to a lot of PS3s sooner or later - I think what happens is they get overheated and the solder goes. I'm not sure you can permanently fix it, but I think you can, at least temporarily, get it fixed by sending it off to Sony.

cheers for the reply man just hoping I havent lost all the work I put into building up my master league side but worst case scenario might have to get a new ps3 when i get pes 2012 if i can last that long without playing pes. I might get bad withdrawal symtoms or something and end up just buying another copy of pes 2011 who knows might even have to smash up this old dead ps3 till it gives me my pes back! haha it shudve known better than to ever get in the way of me and my pes addiction :p

Right is your console one of the old phat originals? The ylod is more suceptable to happening on the older consoles... there is less chance of it happening on the new ones.

Basically as has been said it is an overheating problem so it will not affect the hard drive.

It basically means you will need a new ps3 in simple terms... Now i take it you havent backed your gamesaves up (Just like me, lol). The best thing to do is to take the playstation appart.

You will need a good set of screwdrivers with a couple of them being really small ones... There are online guides to sort it out and take it appart. My original one died last year and i had Oblivion stuck in it, got the disc out fine... However because i didnt have a screwdriver small enough i couldnt get the hard drive case off and well damaged it by trying too hard.

Once you get the harddrive out and the casing off, all you need is a ps3 hardrive docking system... you can pick them up off Amazon/Play fine enough (I will find a link for you).

That way when you get a new ps3 all you do is connect the hard drive dock up and transfer all the game saves over.

cheers for the reply ive done as you suggested and taken the patient approach of using screwdrivers and managed to open up the ps3. then i got a bit stuck with the disc drive thingy so i just sorta smashed that worked tho got the disc out undamaged: result! ill have a lil look on amazon now see if i can find this hard drive system for a reasonable price :)
