This may be old to you, but just in case!
There's news about PES 09 in several Spanish sites, but I haven't been able to find similar articles in English. They basically say that the gameplay aspect of PES 2009 for all platforms is going to be built on the Wii version of PES 2008, due to its superior depth and tactical control. How they will implement this on the different consoles, I have no idea, nor do the people who wrote the articles, apparently.
Also related to this, I've found this article on PES 2009 from before PES 2008 was launched: http://www.videogamer.com/news/15-10-2007-6679.html
The important part of it are these quotes:
"With the release of the PS3 we now have all the basics of the next gen at a starting stage finally. Now I don't have to worry about creating the basic parts of the next gen versions for next year, meaning I have already been able to start working on new features. Now I'm able to promise new things and a complete overhaul in every aspect."
"... all the new modes which we are going to put in the game for next season [PES 2009] are already finished."
I had completely forgotten about that interview. Gives a twist to the "going back to the drawing board" thing. Does this mean that PES 2009 will be an effort to improve gameplay, with NO new modes or revamping of previously available modes? If it's true that they're going to base the game on the Wii version, then I'm afraid that is a strong possibility.
I mean, Seabass thought he had gameplay pinned down, so he was concentrating on improving the game in general. Now he's redesigning it, but May is round the corner already.
I have to admit, though, I'd rather see a mind blowing gameplay than new game modes, but that's just me. What do you think?
