not advisable to play pretty football?

i play countries(supposedly a tad harder then clubs) friendly/compy matches. and i always play short passing all the way, no cross even when i am in a perfect position to cross, no heading. because i want to play flair and score beautifully. but its just too dumb
against 5* computer countries like England, France, Italy. they just camp and block off all my shots/passes into the penalty area and then counter score or set piece. i always have at least 55% of the ball and i felt i dominate more, but i ended up winning just by a single odd goal or even losing. my mate called me a fool and say playing pretty cant win, its the goals that count.
to the pros out there, am i a fool?

hey same prob here, i love to score fancy goals and i became so addicted i can't score normal goals anymore i just subconsiously try to chip, shot fake the keeper, but i don't know why you say long passes aren't pretty ... i make a hell of through passes using them, unfortunatly i don't win when i play with my friends i am always the 2nd or 3rd or whatever, but i do win the AI in most of the games

Hey, listen. All football is beautiful,... no really.

Say you are in the perfect position to cross so you do and your player does an over-head or it actually goes to a player that you didn't intend on passing to but it sits up for the volley.

You can't force what you are trying to do and you have to go with whatever is best for that moment in time. It's just like real football.

For a long time I was trying to play intricate football all the time and I found that I would always just end up shifting the ball on the edge of the box.
What you have to do is do whatever will work. If the long ball is on then do the long ball if you see that you can take a man on then take a man on.

If you don't always try to play intricate football you will find that you will play intricate football more often. See the pass and try and do it. Don't dwell on the ball, one touch and pass, then if nothing opens up then quickly pass it back.

If you watch Arsenal its not the passes that they do necessarily jusat that they shift it so fast that when they get to the final third they can still pass it the same and as quickly. They pass the to the player at the earliest time possible.
Your probably just looking for the threaded pass everytime, seeing it's not on then by the time you play what was the right pass the opportunity has actually gone and the player recieving the ball has a couple less yard than he should of.

Do things like triangles when pasing the ball. Maybe when playing 1-2's don't pass directly to the guy that is dashing forward, but to a player near him and then to the player advancing.
Basically shake it up, but keep it simple and quick at the same time.

This is exactly why pro evo is so much better than fifa because when you're playing a team better than yourself it really is difficult to score at all let alone score a good goal. I scored a cracker from outside the box once as china v brazil on 5* and i was well chuffed!

The gameplay changes depending on your situation, i.e if you're 'under the kosh' you're forced to play like greece and hope for a 1-0 but if not then you tend to dominate the play and play prettier football. I love the passing game on pes, it's just so accurate to real life.

The need to score the perfect goal is a disease, and each sufferer has different idea son the perfect goal and therefore a reliable cure is hard to determine.

The most highly tested and recommended method is strength of will, take the chance and score the scrappy goal, you cannot force brilliance.

Always remember good things come to those who wait. However who said you cant score scrappy goals while waiting? ;)

You can also try to take advantage to score the easy not so flashy goals that may come your way, sometimes it makes the COM more aggresive, giving you space to counter attack and make some beautiful goals, or making you play all that more relaxed, try different stuff and maybe make a goal worth saving.

yeah i suffer from the disease of holding out for the "perfect goal" and trying to walk it into the net, it seems to work for me. But i also take a lot of long shots from outside the box which isn't pretty football but i love to score screamers and i get a fair amount of goals from them and from rebounds etc.

i find it better attacking down the wings, beating the fullback and passing it in - rather than putting in a cross, you get a much higher completion rate.

I beg your pardon?
I hear the frustration in this thread.
I too have the perfect goal syndrome. It used to really get me down when I outplayed my opponent everytime and ended up getting beat in the last minute by a corner.
Now I just take advice from the great Johan Cruyff. "Football should always be played beuatifully. It must be a spectacle. There is no medal greater than being acclaimed for your style."
Although I may not win evey game (still win a lot though!) I will certainly dazzle with skills. I play beautiful football and if I have played well and not made mistakes, I would class that as a victory to myself. Understanding you cannot win all the time is part of life (winning more than others is what's important).
And when you have cracked taking defeat with style, grace and most importantly, pride, you'll be a man my son.
Even if you're 5-0 down, play like World Champions and never give up. My personal example is recently I went down 4-0 to a regular playing partner. After half time I threw it all forward and won 6-4.

I agree. The Beautiful Game is something I strive for. At the same time though, you have to temper that with winning games outright. I think the main problem is that every person I've played against in WE7 tries to huff the ball into the corner and either send in a cross or play if off of the man covering him and out for a corner. As you know, it is much easier to score from corners, so players with little flair play the "I'll knick one off a corner if I get enough of them" style and try to beat you with that bullshit. My strategy is to only send in a cross if I've made a beauty of a pass to set it up or if I dusted a man with a crossover dribble. Even then, if the guy is well marked, I won't cross and knock it off him for a corner. I'll pull it out and try to attack the teeth of the defense with nifty passing.

At the same time though, I'm not going to give up the game to a friend of mine who doesn't belong on the same pitch as me. If I get to the 35 minute mark and am stagnating, I'll do whatever I have to to punch in a goal. I love The Beautiful Game to a fault perhaps, but that still doesn't mean I'm giving away a win to an inferior mate.
But yes, I'm almost pissed at myself when I score a goal off a corner-star header combo (sometimes necessary in Master League in the late stages of a crucial match).
