Players Positions

I play with 4-3-3 three players in the Mid field. I was wondering what is the difference between CMF, DMF, OMF. I know they stand for Center, Defensive and offensive Mid feild players. My questions, what are the main difference between these positions ? It would be great if someone could explain the role of all positions available like LW, RW, LSB, RSB and so on..

i'll start from the back:

GK - goalkeeper
SB - side back
CB - centre back
CM - centre midfield
LW - left wing
RW - right wing
OMF - offensive midfielder
WF - wing forward

and so on . . . . . . . .

DMF= Holding player. Someone who mainly protects the centre backs from opposition attacking pressure. Often the first part of a counter-attack move, though.
OMF= A midfielder who provides minimum defensive cover. The OMF is mainly used to sit behind the forwards, providing thru-balls, making attacking runs themselves.
CMF= A combination of the 2 roles above, really.

Wingers= Make attacking runs down the flanks of the pitch. These are the guys you want whipping-in crosses from the goal-line & for a bit of a change cutting inside, to attack the goal themselves.

Question....does it matter if players play out of position (i.e. Viera as a SB or CB since he is so good at everything)? Just wondering if there is any effect on their performance. Cheers.

I tried this with different players, and actually if with good balanced players, it doesn't make a difference. I have roberto carlos play as DMF, CB, LSB, LW and sometimes CF as well. I am sometimes forced to do this especially when I have a player sent off or performance arrows are down for my players.

Players like Viera, Nedved, Roberto Carlos can be positioned anywhere.
