An option file ( O.F. ) is changes to player appearances , kits, names e.t.c. all done FOR YOU by someone else i.e. the option file maker., with the in - game editor, and/or a graphics program. It's to make the game as realistic as possible, and is meant to save you all the time and effort of doing it all yourself. As you may know, you can download and install O.F.'s from the editing section on this site, and others.
An "edit file" is/are changes to the game you make YOURSELF, using the in - game editor.These changes are saved after each time you do them ( if you have auto-save turned on ), in a section called "edit data". But you don't need to bother with it, as it is simply a place where the game stores it.
Any further changes you make to the option file you installed, will be saved to this "edit file". If you're still confused ( I hope not ),read it again slowly or I'll try to clarify for you.
