Ok the arrow system is just too random one minute a player has an up arrow, the next game for no apparent reason he will have a purple arrow, even if your player is top scorer and assister.
I think a system based on certain factors would be more appropriate, something like
RED ARROW-Player is top scorer/assister, Regular First team player,Player has recently lifted a cup, Player has been made top scorer, player value has gone up significantly or has earned a bonus in his contract, Team are overrachieving significantly, Appraised by the manager.
ORANGE ARROW-Player is on the scorer/assister leaderboard, Regular first team appearances, team is on a winning streak, player value risen slightly, team are slightly overrachieving, team finances are very healthy.
GREEN ARROW- First team opportunities, Player value has neither increased/nor decreased, team are achieving their targets.
BLUE ARROW-Lack of first team appearances, subject to unsettling bids, player value has dropped slightly, Played out of position/ team are underachieving
PURPLE ARROW-Few appearances as substitute or first teamer, team are on a losing streak, team finances are very poor, subject to very aggressive unsettling bids, criticised by the manager.

There meant to be random, sometimes players can have an off day through illness or something or they might not feel up to it, then again some players can get hyped up for no reason really, former team or something or they might just be feelin refreshed. Happens to me in real life, sometimes i feel more up for a game other days i dont etc.....

Sorry Lako it just doesn't happen that way in reality lol. It really is random. Sometimes you just wake up on wrong side of bed. Maybe a lack of sleep. Too much sex the night b4 . Maybe a mosquito bit your foot causing you to play like absolute crap. So many factors can affect your mentality and performance for better or worse. It's not just about being top scorer, etc.

Actually, I agree with the OP. It's just unrealistic to have a player to score a hat-trick in one match, and the next game, he has a gray arrow.

The arrows should be based on the form of the player.

How about the home teams (when its in a league or champions league etc) players are more likely to have positive arrows? In real football the home team tends to have an advantage, it would make game play more realistic, this could be a good way to give the home team a slight advantage that they would have in real football

That is another good point, Konami need to look at these factors and try and implement some sort of system the current system is very unreasonable.

That is actually a great idea, man. Some sort of morale boost. I hope Konami listens.

The same could apply for when you need to win X game in order to qualify or become a champion, your players will be pumped. Or when you can't afford to lose and you had a long run of defeats, you're players might feel down.

So it could be done like a mathematical coefficient to boost or penalize the team's morale.

And since it's an individual stat, It can apply on a more personal level too, some players might actually perform better when under pressure and get a boost and some might cave or get cocky and get a morale penalty.

This.

I thought this was fixed for 2009. It's one thing having to rotate your squad due to fatigue, but having to do so because your twenty-five goal striker has to miss the game after he's scored three and set up two because his arrow is randomly blue/grey is a huge annoyance.

The conditions arrows <- form is definitely fixed in 10 as far as I can see.

I like the home away thing.

Perhaps its already built in?

I know in ML its more of a motivation knowing I'll get paid £600,000 by more sponosors to win at home!

Btw, cards like super sub and talisman can really boost your players if you have a player with them.

And in the "auto tactics" (or whatever) bit, you can tell the AI to either
"use tactics to conserve stamina"
or
"use tactics with regard to players stamina"
or even
"use tactics disregarding stamina"

which can be used progressively from defensive to more aggressive.
On the later, your players run around like crazy, and you get more, but they're left knackered.
