The 'Rage' Tackle

You know you imagine it in your head...your 1-0 down with a few minutes to go and the opposition are mindlessly knocking it around in a superhuman fashion as they do...your getting frustrated! One thing you wish you could is knock them around a bit, give a player a nice big tackle to make them fear you...

Laying there last night in the obnoxious heat, i found myself daydreaming about it, derby matches, the big games between you and your mates with an edge to it...something i believe PES lacks really at the moment.

Heres how it would go:

The 'Rage' tackle (name maybe a bit too harsh ) would be say R3, clicking in the right analogue stick. Put simply, its a herrendous challenge with purpose to injure the player, born out of frustration. This brings with it a heavy risk/reward system...

This would depend on two things, firstly, the referee.

Split into 3 types, the Standard and fair ref, the Lenient ref and the Harsh ref. I imagine in PES2011 to be lots of refs with one of these types and you wont know what they are unless you try tackling when they are officiating

So for the standard ref, for every 10 rage tackles you make, 7/10 would be a yellow and 3/10 would go unpunished, you got away with it! And in that 7/10 chance of a yellow card, 5/7 would be a red card.

The chances of yellows and reds would increase with the harsh ref...say 9/10 would be a yellow and 7/9 for red, whilst it would decrease for the lenient ref...5/10 for the yellow, 3/5 for the red.

The second thing would be derby matches. These are hard-hitting and feisty affairs with tackles flying in from all angles! Liverpool v Everton, Celtic v Rangers, any supporter from these will relish being able to go in for the 'rage' tackle in PES for these matches :D

Simply, the AI would be preset to be very much more inclined to use the 'rage' tackle, resulting in a more dirty match with more yellows, ala real life really.

What does everyone think? :)

I'd love it. My cousin and I used to play Rangers v Celtic games, and it would be a complete hackin' session. But we never had that thumper of a tackle that would send a guy to the hospital, or a thunderous 50-50 collision.

Matches just seem to lack that Umph! I tried to play SA v France last night and everything was moving so slowly, its like no-one cared at all and i wanted a big challenge but when you do a slide tackle, they slide about 2 cm or just on the spot, with no conviction at all...

This would also show in the online matches who the hackers are, and who the fair game players are :)

Good call, I like the name too! Yes I would love this to be put in the game I've been calling this for a while, obviously needs to balanced so its not abused but can carry similar risks to how the ''dive'' move functions.

My ideas for improving some of the realism aspects to the dirty side of the game include added accidental elbows and variation of injuries

More realistic and variety of on field injuries indicating different areas such as facial, back, hamstring, foot or leg. And if a player is injured and comes back on the field he should be limping holding his leg groin or whatever not just simply operating at a slower pace. They should bring back the setting where they had in PES6 where a player would be down injuried and the opposition would kick the ball out of play. That was a nice touch

- Players collison animation more jostling clearer shirt pulling animation especially in the box when free kicks ala cannavaro or Carvalho. Clearer empathsis on height and weight to who is more likely going to win a battle. Add accidental elbows when players are jumpng up in the air for a challenge, which can result in facial injuries to the player like in real life. Also barging into players when deciding to do proffesional foul if opposition is on counter attack, we see this tactical foul as a player decides to sacrifice himself for yellow card.

- Different type of tackles which could involve the dreaded two footed lunge which can be high risk with a likelihood of getting directly sent off or increasing the likelyhood of serious injury to opponent. Or be implemented when there is 50/50 and two players lunge in to fight for the ball. Add in Roy keane Haaland type tackle (just kidding!)

Better diving options besides just falling to the fall there should be the option of the player falling down as if he has been hit in the face. Obviously thats not mandatory

Rage mode button
Press R1 off the ball and the player can start headbutting and throwing players to the floor swearing and ranting at teammates, spitting, kung fu kick fans in the crowd and push the referee if decision doesnt go players way.

Just kidding for the last example btw if anyone thinks that is serious! But defintely more aggression needs to be added to the game, they can even specify to certain players temperament throughout the game, someone like Rooney can be more prone to running rashly into tackles as frustration boils over if the game isnt going the players way. I think some blood may be in order ;)

Haha would be interesting to see if a bit OTT

But actually thinking about it, you would have two 'modes' when defending...Normal mode, where a slide tackle or tackle would be pretty average and going up for headers would be too. Then theres Frustration mdoe, click in r3 and your slide tackle would become a hefty challenge and your going up for headers would be an elbow maybe..click r3 in again to go back to normal mode!

I think there was something similar in ISS3 on the Game Cube. Pressing the Z button, you could put in a tough tackle. If you timed it correctly, you could win the ball without giving a free-kick, but hurt the opposition. However, if you come in from behind, or time it badly, it was a red card.

A good instance of risk/reward in my opinion :)

Risk: Getting a yellow/red

Reward: Injuring/roughing up their star man, getting away with it ;)

Awesome idea. Maybe a two way modifier, one to be more careful and one to be more agressive?

Remember FIFA 99? CRUNCH!

You could have fatigue effect tackling, too. Players who've been run ragged automatically start getting sloppy, while high stamina/mentality players are less affected. Could also be tackling technique/accuracy/speed stats that combine with agility, body balance, and the like to adjust the odds of success of aggressive tackles. That way, a striker or winger using the "lunging tackle" option in the 81st minute would be more likely to execute it poorly and get busted for it than a CB or DMF, meaning you couldn't just chase opponents down with your speedy attackers to win the ball back.

Yeah nice, I like it. I think the manner in which fatigue affects players needs reworking and making a bit deeper generally.

This would of course only really work if the player animations were totally reworked so when they got tackled, they actually went down like a sack of tatties, rather than just looking like they are sitting down or doing a crazy over the top swan dive...

From the recent E3 video tho it seems tackling has been reworked which i hope to see more info on!

I must admit there are periods in the game, for example if I am Liverpool playing against Bolton/Wigan etc, they can keep the ball away from me for elongated periods of time, and there is nothing I would prefer than to just snap one of them in half!

So I would support the 'R3' crunch button! Konami... Listen!

i like this idea, one of the most enjoyable thing about Rugby 08 (a favourite of mine) was the ability to get some dirty plays in. I loved slowing my mates break down by always getting hands in the ruck (R3) and set my defence up properly.
But in football sense would love some ability to jostle and tug shirts. When a player just breezed past you, pressing R3 would make your controlled player grab a handful and slow the fucker down or perhaps even in corners allow an ability to unfairly hold a player/down before jumping.

OP, is this an idea that you want Konami to read? If it is, then I'll move it to the Konami Feedback Zone.

I can just imagine how dirty multiplayer with your mates would become (not that it isn't dirty enough already).

Great idea.
