Timing in free kicks - help

Well i'm a newbie as it comes to PES5. I played some games on PES4, now i try to master the new version. Many ppl said that the freekicks are easier now, and to be true i scored some of them but mostly form the 18-20 m. and i still think it was more a fluke than a skill.
I know i need some practice but i'm not so sure about the right timing.

So the question is: if i want to curl the ball, as it is advised in many threads here : when should i start curling?
I think the FK in PES can be divided into 3 steps:

1) the view behind the striker when you can aim. etc.
2) the "normal view" when the gauge is filling
3) the moment after the player shoots the ball.

The thing is - if i start curling early (in step 1) the ball always go wide, and if i try to curl it in step 3, it doesn't seem to have any influence on the path of the ball.
Pressing left or right in step 2 - makes some weird effects, mostly curling the ball wide.

So any advice on when to start and stop curling the shots will be highly appreciated. I know it depends on the player and distance, but i need to get the proper way clarified before i start some good practise.

Thanks in advance

free kicks this is what i do; always aim over the wall. aim so if the ball was kicked straight it would be a yard inside the post (this about 25-30 yards out), this varies to how far out this is, if further out then obviously more curl is available so bout 2 yards inside the post. Start curling as soon as you let go of shoot, players with less shot power but more curl are better. gauge should go bout half way or bit more and it should sail over the wall and curl in to the top corner. If the gauge goes up just less than half then you might get lucky and it goes between two heads in the wall. I'm here all week. tip; henry and rooney are good for me

It's also good to leran to take free kicks with certain players, cause almost every player takes his freekick differently. So if ur favourite team is manchester learn to take them with rooney for example. u'll get his flow of kicking in no time;)

Thank guys.

I followed the suggestions and took a looooong session of FK practice with my Master League Team. Seems like i begin to get a hang of it. I scored few in the training, and after that i even managed to score my first from 30 y. in Div.2 cup with Mathieu! (Strange thing, but nowadays i seem to struggle to put the close ones (18-20y) on target).

Seems like individual stats of player really count, so i must just get to know my players better :)

Anyway, i see some good progress, thanks again!

proevo5 - if i can puzzle your writing right, you advise to press R2 when shooting close range FK. I don't really dfind them different with R2 pressed. I was playing with the combinations of down or x but i just can't make them right.

Strange thing - i put some with Foque and with players with FK acc. of 80-90 they always go wide.

Need some more practice i think.
