They're mostly ineffective in the game, 4 times outa 5 you can beat the man by changing speed and angle, rather than doing a marseilles roulette lol.
Although stepovers (double-tapping R2) can work well sometimes, and crabbing can be good (hold L1 + R1) to line-up the perfect pass.
