Trying to convert to PES...help!

Hey all...i'm a FIFA lifer and I thought I'd check out what all the buzz is about this PES 2011. I got the game yesterday and played a few game this morning but I'm just not buying into it. Maybe someone here can help me figure this out...

1. What is the deal with the whole "cursor" thingy...when the setting is on "assisted"...why are my players playing by themselves??? That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. If I put the setting on "manual" it is painfull manually switching between players on defense. Especially if the cpu is on a counter attack and try to switch to the defender to cut off the attacker streaking in on net..as soon as I make the switch the defender stops for a like a second which is enough time to let the attacker through on net. In FIFA switching between players is much more fluid and my players don't play by themselves. Am I doing something wrong??

2. Is it me or is there no freedom of player movement like there is in FIFA. Meaning on FIFA I feel like I can control the player any way I want with complete freedom of movement but in PES it doesn't feel like that at all. It feel's like i'm very limited in player movement.

3. Where's the battling/jockeying for ball possession between players especially on defense. This is something i can clearly do in FIFA but can't figure out how to do in PES...what am I doing wrong?

4. On offense, the passing doesn't seem very fluid either....directional passing seems very difficult. How do I get my forwards to make runs?? In FIFA, I can just press a button to get them to make runs but I can't figure it out on PES??

I do like PES's visual presentation's better, especially players face look alot more like their real-life counter parts than FIFA's does. I love the editing capabilities in PES as well. I love the authentic Champions and Europa League as well. All this stuff is great but the gameplay is what it really comes down too and i'm just not seeing what's so great about PES.

On the cursor issue I keep it default, that aspect is poorly designed re:computer playing for you on semi assisted or manual.

On movement I havent played FIFA 11 so im not 100% what you mean. Remember you can hold R2 and jog also off the ball you yan use R1+R2 (super cancel) to break a run to intercept a ball.

X would be the jockey button though its similiar its not the same.

Forward runs. Forwards make their own runs (usually) glance at the radar and you can set a CF clean through. If you make a good passing angle generally your CF will give you the run you need . Also once you pass press R2 and that player will run forward.

Passing is fine IMO you just need to get used to it, especially what power to give it. Hold L2 for a manual pass (No AI assistance ).

If you use the d-pad you may get on better with the left analog.

I play on PS3 so all button references are PS3 , if your on another format you figure it out :D

Give the game a chance before making your mind up :D

Exactly, give it time. I'm a converted FIFA addict that is now addicted to PES. For anyone who is a fan of futbol, FIFA is far from SIM to the sport. With PES I am playing a game that almost replicates in fashion to what I witness on weekends watching matches.

While not perfect, given time hopefully you will see the same.

Its preference.

I appreciate that both games have their pros and cons but I hear people switching to either game quite frequently but I do feel that its almost impossible to own both games and get the best out of them.

Both games conflict each other.. whatever game you play out of PES or FIFA, you need to really get into the new zone and out of your previous zone if you wish to swich either way and try to play for the positives rather than get upset by any negtives..

thats just my take on it. :)

PS

"4. On offense, the passing doesn't seem very fluid either....directional passing seems very difficult. How do I get my forwards to make runs?? In FIFA, I can just press a button to get them to make runs but I can't figure it out on PES??"

That is the only one you wrote that isnt possible by pressing a button in PES.. you have to either do a 1 - 2 pass or hope the CPW reads your intentions before you lay a pass/ through ball.

put your attackers high up the pitch then just punt the ball up the pitch

that is the pes way to play :w00t
