Hello chaps, I'm after some advice.

I'm not much of a games man. The only games I really play on are Footy Manager when I can be arsed and occasionally Pro Evo on the PS2. However, until recently I used to work nights (well until 9pm anyway), but since January I've been working days and finishing at about half 3, and to be honest, I get bored as fuck on a night time. I have to get up for half 6 I'm too knackered to do anything, so I thought I might invest in one of these next generation games machine thingybobs.

Most people I've spoken to say the Xbox is a better console and better value for money than the PS3, so unless someone makes a good case otherwise I'd probably go for that. However, I haven't got a bastard clue what to look for, what's a good price, what the best games are, etc. I've heard this Halo thing is meant to be good, but I don't even know what it's about, nevermind played on it. I've also heard PES for the Xbox and PS3 are a bit crap - I'm not really arsed about high def graphics and all that jazz, but is it as bad as it's made out to be, and is it true theres no edit mode (and does that mean you're stuck with West Midlands Village vs Berkshire Blues, etc?)

I honestly haven't got a clue, so any advice would be appreciated. Would it even be worth splashing out? I've read a couple of reviews which were handy, but I trust you fellas more, so its really in your hands?

Cheers.

Right, I own both so can possibly make a fair post...possibly.

The Xbox gameplay is pretty much identical to the PS3. I very rarely see games for less than £30 for the PS3 where I do the Xbox.

Halo 3 is very good online, but to be honest if you play Call of Duty 4 you'll probably never play Halo again.

The online features for the PS3 are way behind the Xbox, but that is to be expected as Microsoft had a headstart.

PES is just plain gash on both consoles. Major lag issues too. You CAN edit names etc but let's be honest, for £30+ you shouldn't have to. Those caaants at Konami should have already done it.

If I were you I'd go for Xbox, but the PS3 does have Blu-Ray which could appeal to you.

Either way, the best place online to get them is www.shopto.com

I'd give you the full link, but their site is down at the moment.

I've had an Elite since my birthday. Sooo good.

But yes, XBox 360 all the way. Halo is great. I recommend buying and completing Halo 1 and 2 before purchasing Halo 3. When it comes to online though, Call of Duty 4 is incredible. I hardly play Halo online now because CoD online is just so damn good.

PES is a bit wank but it's PES and it's the best of a currently bad bunch. DON'T buy FIFA. It's just horrendous.

Another game to consider is BioShock. Fantastic storyline, easily 20+ hours of gaming there.

Enjoy.

Anyone played N+ on the XBLA?

It's awesome. I'd buy it in a flash if I wasn't saving my points for the GTA episodes.

I absolutely loved BioShock, easily one of my favourite games in recent years. I rarely play FPS etc minus COD and it was amazing, rumour has it they maybe developing a BioShock 2 due to the outstanding feedback the game got. But it's rumoured it wouldn't be released for about another 2 years anyway, least it wouldn't be rushed.

PS: My 360 broke last night, gutted well and truly. It's been churning discs now for a few weeks and making wierd noises so I've been fearing the worst for a while. Last night though it destroyed my PES6 disc, and the disc tray refuses to close, fucking mint!

I personally don't think FIFA is that bad on the 360. I quite like it. PES on Live is totally shocking due to the Lag. FIFA I think runs smoother on live, but, it's down to personal preference.

Fucking blessing in disguise if you ask me.

Kidding aren't you ? It's the only football game I can play online, PES 2008 is a Single Player only game, whereas PES6 is an Online game only.

I'll be buying one of ebay for around £3 though soon if I can get my Sexbox fixed for relatively cheap.

Why can't they make the PES for the next gen consoles play and move kind of like the PS2 versions. This year's PES on the XBox isn't...it isn't really PES. It's just annoying.
