The more I'm playing it, the more I'm enjoying it, wasn't too keen on first couple of games, but as said above, the game grows on you, it's quality compared to 2008, just give it a chance if your not struck with it staight away.

My views:

-Player movement is rigid, and very very stiff...8 directions, poor show!

-visuals improved

-ball physics improved, altough at times clunky...and unrealistic

"took a weak shot, hit the nets and flew to the top of the net and then back down again..."

-GK parry every shot, weak or strong...straight forward saves are over complicated

-Animations are spectaculatrly horrendous!

and don't belong in a 2008 video game, FIFA's animations make this game look still-life.

-players such as messi and C.Ronaldo doing auto-skills, the WORST! idea ever, this basically confirms that PES is an arcade game.

its FIFA for me i have to say...this game has made little progress since its debut on the NG consoles, not another watsed £40...sorry.

So far after playing roughly 8 games between the PC and PS3 demo I'd have to say that I truly enjoy the game. Here are my positives:

+ New physics are great
+ Speed of the game is just right
+ Improved AI. Especially on defense.
+ Body balance doesn't seem to give you a god like advantage.
+ No more running it down the field with one player (due to speed of game and body balance change)
+ Shooting is as exciting as ever do to physics :).
+ The instant manual passing with the right analog stick is a nice improvement.
+ The grass looks better.
+ keepers improves although they still parry shots from time to time.

Negative aspects so far:

- The menus are overly animated and colorful. Seems like im playing Tony Hawk :p. -- Don't like the music too much.
- The manual change cursor option is odd. You have to hit L1 after passing or the comp will control your player until you do so. So if you pull off a tight pass in the box you better have lighting fast fingers or the computer might ruin your one-timer attempt (unless the comp can read your mind). I chose to play on assited option because it at least changes when you pass. Although its' a bit annoying on defense.
- The graphics are improved but not a next gen level.
- Atmosphere (Feeling like im there) of the game still needs improvement. Mix fifas in and you have a close to perfect game.
- They need to get rid of the 8 directional movement. I don't mind it but that's like living in the past.

Overall I love the game. The positives for me greatly outweigh the negatives. I can't wait to play the full game.

It may have made little progress in comparison to the Fifa atmosphere/graphics/animations but still beats fifa when it comes to the scoring aspect which in my view is the most exciting part of soccer. In Fifa there is no excitement when i score. Feels like I scored a zero-gravity shot.
These are my opinions though. If Fifa were to fix their physics problems, PES would be in trouble.

I played two games so far.

It's def better than 08. It is basically a finished 08. It's what 08 was supposed to be. I wasn't blown away.

Positives:

+ Graphically it's more polished.
+ No Slowdown.

Negatives:

- Ball sound sucks! It kinda ruins the game for me.
- 8 directional movement: I'm not feeling the movement. It's not fluid, it feels chopped up.

So far, I'm really sad to say I'm not happy with the game. Maybe I had my hopes up. I'll give it a few more matches.

Ok just almost done with my first game, Real Madrid vs. Liverpool.

Let me first start off by stating that i thought PES 2008 had many problems, the ball handling didnt feel the same as before, too fast, the skills were to easy to do as in they were automatically done for you, i found that annoying.

The game speed was too fast and felt un natural. And the ball flew around too much like a ping pong ball. I never got too into the game, and would only play friends, never the computer too much as it wasnt that fun. Against friends the game was ok, fun i guess but thats it.

Now fast forward to PES 2009 demo, this game is completely different!!! None of those crappy auto moves for most of the part, the game play is slowed down comparable to PES 5, and just plays soo smooth, back to what they missed out on making PES 2008. The passing is fine to me, as long as you make sure you feel you have it in the right direction.

The one thing that i find distinctly different compared to all the other PES games i played in the past, is that when doing through balls it doesnt do it so much for you automatically anymore, it does a through ball depending on how long you hold triangle ,and will if tapped just do a through ball for a partner next to you, but if you see a guy farther away you need to hold it for a sec., not too long though.

The goal scoring is more worth it again, like past games. It feels just right! You know what i mean? Like the game play is back to where it should ahve been.

FIFA 09' had me scared as it was catching up, as i will admit the gameplay was getting their, minus the scoring.

I am confident in saying PES 2009 is better just based on this demo, but both are fun to play, PES> FIFA again.

Also lemme add, the whole scoring to easily with games coming out to 5-4 or 6-5, etc. isnt an issue in this game.

How difficult is it once you've played a few games and got used to it? In recent editions once i've got used to the slight variations in gameplay i can immediately beat similarly rated teams on the top level- is this the case again or does it seem like the top level might be a real challenge?

Just played the Pro Evo demo for the PS3, and I must say I'm impressed. Last year I was so disappointed I couldn't bring myself to play it more than five times and I must admit I did fear the worst this year as well. After playing both the Pro Evo & Fifa demos, I'd say we're looking at a great winter of virtual football!!

In my honest opinion, i don't like it much. I don't feel as if i have control over my players, their movements are too bold. And i wish i could change the pass button to manual rather than having to use the right stick.

I'll play a few more games, but it isn't a good start.

Just played it and i'm sorry but i have to say the game aint great, the worst thing for me is the running animation (baywatch run) its just hard to play the game and seeing your players run like that...just looks odd. It sounds like your kicking a box when you kick the ball, the gameplay is slowed down and improved but i still get this pes2008 feel. I'm also really annoyed about the players still having tucked shirts..it just looks shit seeing every player with a shirt tucked in.

I just think for some reason Konami can't make a decent next-gen football game, they've made changes but i don't think they've done enough.

def a hit. Really enjoyed it. Annoying thing is you hardly get any chances on goal except free kicks but suppose i have to work harder to get chances. The ball noise is loud but tbh you forget about it during the match unless you really concentrate on it.

True, but wrathchild's been here longer than your mother, and he says it's shit so I'm inclined to believe him.
