After reading some of the comments in this thread I was expecting the 09 demo to be rubbish. However, after an afternoon of playing the demo, i think this years PES release could be the best yet. There seems to be a lot more depth to the gameplay than 08. It's going to take a while to master each aspect of the game (especially the shooting), which is something I have always liked about the PES series as no two games feel/handle the same. The one of major 'bugs' from last years release has been ironed out so we can now actually enjoy watching the replays this year (Couldn't believe Konami would even dream of releasing a game with framerate issues as bad as that..). The graphics have also undergone a slight overhaul which makes the game look more 'next-gen', especially the lighting effects and the player models which are the best i've seen in a football game. The pace of the game is also spot on in my opinion, a massive improvement from last year.

The demo has left me pleasantly surprised, even more so after having read some peoples opinions of the game. All that needs to be fixed now is the online multiplayer and we should be looking at a great game when it's released. I might just be able to forgive Konami for last years poor showing.

I picked up a copy of fifa on 360 on Friday, and i was impressed to some degree. It does play well but i felt it doesn't offer me the depth of gameplay that I look for in a footy game. I certainly couldn't play it until next october. I think PES 09 will offer me this and i'm looking forward to playing the release build in a couple of weeks.

Let down

Ive spent the last 10 years or so scoffing at people who dared to suggest that there was any other football game worth playing but after last years poor offering from pro evo i thought that i would look at this years demo for the tart that is fifa , and it pains me to say it but its gone full circle and is actually similar to the best pes of all time which was pes3-meanwhile pes has done the opposite and catered for the online morons who just want to fill their teams with speed merchants and dribble round everybody. Gone are the days where you actually had to break teams down patiently. The demo is a disgrace and they are going to have to take a step back and start again by looking at all the things that made this such a great series in the first place.

People need to get a grip and stop expecting so much from a company who have given us years of the finest in football gaming. There's not much more they can do. They can't make the perfect game because if they did, would anybody buy their next release?

People, myself included, were let down by PES2008 last year and so have less patience with this year's version. Grow up and remember how much adjustment a new PES takes. I detested the PES4 demo but couldn't get enough of the full game. Give it more of a chance before you even consider giving money to EA, a company who just throws their weight about to achieve sales.

Nobody expects it to be perfect, but just dont make it worse than anything EA put out. It doesnt take time to adjust, if its too fast and easy then its too fast and easy that isnt going to change. And by the way pes4 was a massive step down from pes3, one big problem being over a ML season you would get about 25 penalties!!

That's true but it isn't worse than FIFA. Maybe that's just me, I dunno. I just can't get into FIFA. Oh well.

Well i never could to be honest, in fact this years demo was the first fifa ive played since 1996 but i hate to say i was quite pleasantly surprised purely because of its simalarity to pes3.

Waiting....
I think Konami are making an effort, but are concentrating on the wrong things. They have improved the graphics and player likeness to make it the best they've ever produced, but it looks like they've not focused on building on the gameplay too much. The changes (for the better) in each game seem to be slight, but the games have better game life than other football games. I'm not going to pre-judge the game based on the demo, but if they don't improve on the demo, it could be the worst PES ever, but still better than the FIFA games I've played. However, the FIFA09 demo is about the same as the PES2008 demo.

I'm not a PES fanboy, but I am a Konami and Capcom fan. The reason I don't like Fifa as much is mainly, EA. Crysis looked like it was going to be totally off the chart before EA got involve, after they did, the finished game was very much dumbed down, EA even admitted it, they wanted to accomodate for every JOCK or non gamer out there, such a kick in the nuts for the real gamers like myself who were expecting an unbelieveable game.

EAs = McDonalds of gaming...

Konami = Nando's?

Money wise perhaps, but Konami is certainly older with a much BETTER reputation think of the legendary games made by Konami..

Castlevania, Contra, The Turtles series on Nintendo, Metal Gear and MGS and many many more.

hi all,
new here but not new to PES.
been a big fan for years and was just wondering a couple of things about what people have learned so far through the demo.
first off sounds like im going to love the game, from what ive read so far as all the positives seem to be what i love about PES series!
but anyway the questions, just little things i missed in the last game.
first off i was wondering whether the atmosphere is any better this year as with last years game i felt the crowd were lacking, ie. it never had a buzz like it did in pes6 and when you scored there wasnt much of a roar.
secondly, whats the commentary like? as despite jon champion being good last year Lawro was a bit of a let down.
and lastly can you bend the ball with the R2 shot like you could in PES6? cos i loved that aspect of the shooting, being able to curl a shot Henry-esque into the far corner. i know in Pes08 you could place it accurately but you couldnt curl it.

anyway cant wait for the game!
thanks,

To be honest at first i had my reservations but like with all pes games ps2 that is
if you give it time it becomes better and better. My opinion is that in 2 months from now everybody will be raving about this game. Its fantastic!

I don't know how people can complain about the game play. I've been switching between 08 and 09 (Demo) and I think it is slowly coming back to the better days. But nothing beats WE9 at the moment. :chanlaugh:

Too bad, it's a matter that you get the grip with holes in defense that the AI makes after a couple of passes.

OK!!!

gonna try and keep this short and sweet but really i feel to rant on for pages!

i have just joined this forum as i can see alot of pro fans that know the game and i also see alot of spurs fans so must be sensible people here (Up the spurs!!.... please :/ ).

I have played all the pro's and could probably be called a pro fan boy as i would not except any bad talk about pro especially from fifa players. But i cannot stress how dissapointed i am with this years release. Yes ok, its still a good game, u know it delivers all the stuff that pro usually does including all the irritating stuff like players running the ball out of play or stopping for a breath before realising that actually they are the closest to the ball and u want them to get it. however its still the great game. So why am i pi**ed!

Well, i want some improvements! i want something different!!

After playing Fifa 09 Pro just fells clunky. the players can only run in 8 directions and it feels like there is a lack of animation. when u run into another player it looks and feels like you have just hit a brick wall, you can almost see the 4 motions of animation; standing, slightly falling, falling a bit more, then down! I just think after so many years that we deserve a bit more. Also the lack of skills. i mean at spurs theres also a lack of at the moment, but over the years ive seen so many turns and different touches in football that just dont seem to make it into this game. more happens than just three steps over the ball, a flick over the head or a 90 degree sidestep, the game just feels square. ive felt for the last 2 releases that konami needed a kick up the ass and this year they have got it cause imo Fifa 09 kicks ass ( I cant believe konami have made me say that ).

And the menu!! what the hell was they thinkin! i feel like im about to play dragonball Z or some other cartoon based game. wheres the hard hitting serious user face and music??? *cries*

stop being lazy konami and give us more than just updated player stats and transfers, we want a new experience not updates.

sorry for the rant but im hurt :/
