What do you think of the demo?

Dragonfly

Waiting....
I've had players slide in for the ball, clatter the man and get sent off without pressing the button now on numerous occasions.

The fuck is this all about?

I used to get that on PES2008. If you press the player on the ball, you will sometimes see your player dive in for a tackle if the attacker tries to shoot or cross the ball (or feints).

I see, so what you're saying is you no longer have to press the slide tackle button in order to preform a sliding tackle?

Makes perfect sense, good job Seabass.

The Dude

His Dudeness
finally played the demo and i think its great........the dude abides........i actually like that the refs give out more cards because in pes08 i would go a whole season and only get like five cards........i think the grapgic are amazing........cant wait for it to come out.

This updated version of 2008 is far from great mate, lets try keep things in perspective here.

End of the day everybody wants to love PES again but some of these comments are very misleading on the poor lads that got devastated in the last version.

Maybe next year.

I used to be a PC only gamer. I didn’t want to hear anything about the Playstation or any other console for that matter, although I owned every single SEGA console. In 2003 though, I had to buy my very first PS2. Why? Because of a game called PES 3. My thumps got swollen during the first couple of weeks. I broke 2 joypads out of frustration because of the controls, but I kept coming back for more. It didn’t take long to start playing at the highest difficulty and it took no time at all to look at the Fifa games and laugh. This game was simply the best footie game I had ever played. Year after year Konami fine tuned the game closer to perfection. But every year we had to complain about something, so every year although almost perfect PES HAD to change. Come 2007 they are taking steps backward. PES 2008 was the worst release yet, unstable servers, lag, no difference in the graphics and still no Premiere League License. It wasn’t any different than the PES 6 version. So what do I think about the demo?

1. It is the game it should have been not last year, but 2 years back.
2. Leave the god damn match engine alone. If it’s working don’t break it. Don’t change it every year from good to bad to good again.
3. Instead focus on the graphics and get licenses, don’t tell me Konami doesn’t have the cash do it (except those that are exclusive to EA). I guess when the fans do the job for you why should you bother, ehh?
4. FFS what the hell are those menus???? Am I playing a Tony Hawk Game??? Through some flowers and animals while you’re at it. C’mon, what were you thinking?

So if you compare it to last year’s game, yeah, this is a good game, but far from perfect. On the PC it is and it will be the best footie game out there, simply because FIFA sucks big time this year, again.

But and this is a big BUT. On the PS3 (and the XBOX 360 from what I hear) FIFA 09 is way better. I played the FIFA 09 Demo and I was like OMFG they actually made a good Soccer game. I repeat the PC version is a whole different matter and it sucks. On the PS3 you get Slick presentation, full of licenses, and finally… good controls.

Every year I was trying both games out and every year I was laughing at the way FIFA was playing. I used to play PES all year through. Except last year, last year the only soccer game I played was Football Manager. This year though the FIFA 09 demo put a smile on my face ffs. I hate the fact that I came to like FIFA more than PES. We always complain how EA releases the same game basically every year. Well Konami is doing the same and I won’t be spending any cash on this year’s PES just because it is the game it should have been last year. Sorry. We deserve better for sticking to PES all these years. I would rather play PES 6 on my PC. PULL IT TOGETHER KONAMI AND SEABASS because soon we will call it Pro Devolution Soccer.

This isn’t a bad game or anything it’s just not what we should be getting. FIFA 09 has raised the bar and PES simply isn't there. Don’t tell me that you where excited more than you were relieved that they made it this year? Don’t tell me that the gameplay is better than that of PES 6? The only feature I am dying to try out is the Be A Legend mode. Because the Be a Pro on the pc sucks big time. I’m sure that PES will be way better on that part.

So this is what I think about this year’s PES, as a gamer who has played FIFA since it was released back in 1993 and has played ISS and PES through the years. I love PES, it’s the game that has given me the thrills and the emotions only the real game could give. But the transition into the current gen era has stunned them imho. Although I was hoping to love the game, I have to be realistic here. They will be back on top, maybe next year, but it won’t be with this year’s game. Sorry. :(

Playing the FIFA 09 Demo: -> Pleasently Surprised :shocking: Excited even :w00t

Playing the PES 2009 Demo -> Ok, they made it this year, hurray. It’s the usual PES game. :fplm:

I think some people (such as Dundon's, for example), are taking all this far too seriously.

Everyone has their own set or opinions and preferences. It would be impossible for Konami to satisfy everyone's needs, hence why I think they've hit the mark this time as they're trying to cater for the majority rather than minority groups whining about certain aspects of the game.

I think the demo is a definite improvement on 2008. Ultimately, it's a game. A lot of you would benefit loads from remembering that. Games are meant to be fun and shouldn't be taken too seriously. Who really cares about the trivial and mundane aspects which they may not get right.

You all praise PES5 and say this game's based on the PES5 engine but you're still whining.

Konami will NEVER be able to satisfy everyone. That's impossible! Just be grateful for the game tehy're giving you!

Yeah, I can remember people criticising PES5 because the defenders were faster than the forwards. Now in PES2009 they're praising the fact that you can't run past them....

This game does not play like PES5, where the hell did that notion come from?

I've just canceled my order from Play.com after reading that comment, I'm washing my hands of this game just to show how grateful I am. :)

Give it time and they will be complaining again that the defenders are too fast :)

If you were in my boots Zoo would you buy an xbox or PS3?

I have a Wii (which is ace) but with the UFC game getting released soon I'll be needing a top up, I'd also be interested to to know if PES is any better on console this year as to on the PC if anyone has played both demos?

Are you planning to play online a lot? 360 has a better online experience but PS3 has Blu-ray. Both have their good & bad points.

Dundon's

W.G.P
I might try playing online yeah, Mariokart on the Wii has really got me back in the online mood recently, if you haven't played it yet all I can say is it plays the exact same online as it is offline, ZERO lag, it's an experience.

Getting back on topic did I hear that the 360 has a different setup in PES as to what we'd be used to? Also is the PS3 online free where as the Xbox is a subscription setup?

Not sure what you mean by set up but it's pretty much the same. The only difference being the controllers.

PS3 is free. If you want to play against people on 360 you have to pay. It's not much though & well worth it.

You can download movies from Xbox live. A feature which PS3 will also be implementing.

i have a tradition(sad as it sounds) where i dont play a new pro until it is released so i have not downloaded the demo. I thought pes 2008 was a poor game but this is the most excited by a pes game as i have ever been as i expect great things from the gameplay. The positives mentioned so far by everyone has been what i wanted to hear. The main thing i want is for the game to be a challenge and return to being a football simulation. would like to hear peoples opinions of whether the game is a challenge on top player.
