The Coolest Thing Just Happened To Me...

Most of you will already know this, but I didn't, because I've come to PES from FIFA.

This afternoon I finished playing my first regular season playing as Manchester City. Over the course of the last ten games I'd been struggling to make it into the top four, because of course, in real life, if you make it into the top four then you get a birth in The Champions League.

I hadn't cracked the top four all season long. But then on the very last day of the season I managed to pass Newcastle and claim the fourth spot - that I did so by just one point made my victory seem all the more glorious.

And then I thought, wow, what a shame that I can't continue into the next season, and actually play Champions League matches during the course of my next campaign. I figured, oh well, there's a Champions League mode in there anyhow, I'll just play a Champions League season as Man City separately when I commence my next campaign.

But much to my surprise, when I hit the FORWARD button, I actually did advance into the next season, and there on the schedule were the blue Champions League icons, meaning of course that the computer had recognized that I had finished in the top four and had placed me into the Champions League. So now I get to play a regular season campaign, as well as the Champions League matches, and also compete in the F.A. cup.

Okay, maybe everybody in the PES community knows that this is the way it works - but I didn't.

God I love this game!

Typical of someone who has just copnverted from Fifa to get overly excited about something that has nothing to do with gameplay. If he was bothered about gameplay he'd be going in the opposite direction.

Congratulations, this is the first sensible post I've seen you make.

There used to be medals and the like for this, unfortunately the credit crunch has taken control.

Im with LFC. I wasnt impressed when I tried fifa a few months ago. All I kept thinking was, "whats all the fuss about?".

And then I realised what they loved about the game. The feature that allows them to alter the goal celebrations. Priceless.

I assume your post has a high level of sarcasm, but I'll ask this question anyway. Does that really have an affect? I mean really, because when I score on Pro, it's Start > Start > Start, and game back on again. Even if I could make my player dance around the pitch for ten minutes I still wouldn't bother.

I am in the middle of trying Fifa on the ps3 but I also don't see what the fuss is about. I plan to give it some more time but early impressions it still isn't as good as PES IMO.

Are you using any manual controls? Have you switched the config to match Pro Evo? Are you using give and go alot? Are you initiating off the ball runs? HAve you sorted out your formation and custom tactics to make your defence play deeper?

These are all big things.

These are all big things.

1. I am not using Manual controls yet.
2. I have swtiched the config to match PES.
3. How do you initite off the ball runs? is it L1? If so, i have a little.
4. Looked at custom tactics a bit but not a lot.

As I said, I plan to give it more time so I will try Manual and custom tactics.

Use manual crossing and long balls defo. I haven't made the switch to manual for everything yet, but from what people have said, once mastered it takes the game to a whole new level of realism. L1 is what you use to initiate off the ball runs yeah. It's essential down the wings and for through balls to strikers, although you'll notice on Legendary how well the CPU defence tracks the runs or plays the offside trap. Really cool. Custom tactics are essential when it comes to defending. You need to drop the defensive pressure right down and also place your centre backs nearly as far back as they'll go in the formation screen, as they have a tendency to play a very high line if left untouched.
