I use the pad. Haven't shelled out for a steering wheel and scarcely think it would make me better, to be honest.

Someone at my work spent mega money on a Recaro racing seat and built-in steering wheel. Fucking idiot probably hasn't used it in about 6 months.

I once saw a truly excellent tuning guide. I'll try and track it down for you guys.

Oooh, if that's all it'll take :D

Depends how I feel :folarm:

How much time should I spend practising on the day of purchase before joining the PESGaming races? I played GT5 Prologue in November and forgot how appalling the handling was, I presume GT5 is a vastly superior iteration?

Never played the prologue. Didn't see the point.

You'll need some practice, as with everything, it makes perfect.

This tuning guide, whilst a little rough in terms of its English language (certainly not grammar checked) is the one I would recommend. Makes things simple and gives realistic tips along the way.

You get that down by another second and I'll need to pick a better car, my little OAP Civic is pushing what it's capable of.

I can always find something a little slower to keep things fair.

I would like to set up something once-a-week, where we announce what we'll be racing at the start of the week and then that gives everyone a week of picking a car/testing/tuning/testing/tuning/testing/tuning/re-picking a car/rinse-and-repeating on the track at hand, etc.

Would be cool, if we had enough interest, to get everyone online and create some form of mini-championship. I was fluttering around the edges of a forum that did all this for a few months ages ago (the Grumpy British Racing Club) and they really taught me the satisfaction and beauty of driving clean and competitive. I competed in one race, where everyone had to use the Lupo Cup Car, and finished 4th. It was great fun.

15 minute qualifying session followed by a 20-lap race. Then the same again and that was it for that week.

More broadly, they (as a 'racing club') had a number of different cars they considered the 'stock' for their members' garages. Each member who wanted to race as part of the club should own all of the cars in the list, to the specification laid out. In most cases, the cars would either be race-modified (having been bought new from the dealership) or won through a certain event in the GT career mode (earlier events). Tuning generally allowed.

On top of that, they had a number of 'classes' which they raced with. For example, the A-class would be BHP limit of 650 and weight restriction of at least 1,300kg, whilst the C-class might have a BHP limit of 266 with a weight restriction of at least 1,000kg. Within there, tuning would be allowed but, perhaps no race-modified cars and no aero parts.

Thus, there were one-make races but also specification races, meaning people get to bring their own preferred car and race with it.

Would love to create something of that kind of ilk on here with you guys.

As I'm sure you can all tell, I'm massively keen on my GT5.

Best thing to do would be to get yourself on the track with a couple of us and see where you are at.

If you get left for dead, then you know you need more practice. For all you know, you might be streaks ahead of all of us.

Generally speaking, the slower the cars, the more level the playing field (although I still took 25+ seconds out of Dale around 5 laps of Special Stage 5 last night with us both in a VW Golf each).

Nah, PP is where the point is. I'm in for the race, the more difficult it is, the more enjoyment I'll get from the challenge. I'm weird like that.

I really like the sound of this. It was something I would have loved to do on Forza, but there was little interest.

Just be aware I have a penchant for using/tuning shit cars, so don't think you're on a easy win when I stroll up with an old banger (and I don't mean Sminky :D)

I see what you did there.

In terms of motors, any recommendations?

You mean out of the 1,000+ available in game?

Honda Civic race-modified. Great car.

Proper chav-racer, too. Absolutely fucking classless.

1,000?! Flaming Nora, that's a lot of Motor.

I'll go with Subaru to start with then, want a bit of oomph!

Fick - 1:35.413.

That'll do for a bedtime lap-time.

I think when you first start the game, you will be limited to a 20,000 credit car. If I recall correctly, I bought the Suzuki Swift as my first car.

You might have to wait until one is in the used showroom, or I'll see if I can sort one for you. Civic's are 10 a penny and a good choice with being nimble FWD's, where the Legacy with its AWD (all wheel drive) can be a bit of a bitch in the tighter corners.

I want a motor I can gently hand brake round corners with - its a bad habit, I do it all the time on games like GTA and SR where obviously the physics aren't quite as 'realistic'.
