And some need to take their blinkers off - Sony treated me and thousands of other consumers terribly. I am not saying that other companies are any better but Sony have, in the past, really let their customers down with poor after sales service
Well I personally haven't had any problems with Sony's Customer Services. From my experiences, Sony's Customer Services have actually been quite good.
I bought me a Vaio PC about 4-5 years ago. It developed a fault after a couple of years. I contacted Sony and they told me they were sending a courier down to my house to come and pick up the PC. They phoned me a couple of days later to tell me that the power pack was faulty and it needed replacing. They said they would replace it for free because my PC was still under warranty and as a gesture of goodwill, they'll also upgrade the RAM free of charge.
So 2 weeks later, the courier returned my PC, I turned it on and everything was working in tip-top condition. That all happened 2 and a half years ago and the PC is still working fine today.
You're probably thinking that this is an isolated case and maybe it is an isolated case, I wouldn't know. But has it come across your mind that some of these examples of bad Customer Services are also isolated cases for certain individuals? We only ever see the examples of bad Customer Services broadcasted by disgruntled customers. Now let's face it; we never see customers publicly praising a company's Customer Services, do we? For all you know, there may be millions of customers who are more than satisfied with Sony's Customer Services. But we'll never know because they're not going to tell us.
And while we're at it let's talk about this Disc Read Error problem. I personally think that the Disc Read Error problem has been blown all out of proportion.
I bought my PS2 all the way back in 2001 and I didn't get my first Disc Read Error until Q4 2005. I did contact Sony about this and they said to me that it's a common lens problem and that it needed replacing. But they said they had to charge for the replacement lens because my PS2 is outside of it's warranty period. So basically I decided it's not worth getting it repaired.
I decided against it because the Disc Read Error isn't that problematic for me. All my games boot up fine first time no problem but it's the DVD movies that can be a bit tricky. Out of the 50 original DVD movies I tried booting up on my PS2, 8 of them didn't work.
But I've had this sort of problem before with other CD & DVD lenses so it's not really a surprise that it's happening right now because it's like I said earlier, I've been in these situations before with other CD & DVD lenses around my house. All it takes is some re-adjustments and a little cleaning here and there and before you know it, your lens is as nippy as the day you bought it.
Call me a fanboy if you like but I personally cannot agree with some of the comments posted here.
Rant over.
