First Impressions on PES5!

You're probably right...I dont know about cheating but ive always thought that playing against the COM is counter productive and you shouldnt get used to it. If you play the COM long enough you end up adapting to its linear and never changing style of play and you might end up opening a thread one day about how easy it is to beat the bloody thing on six star and of how you score six or seven goals a game...:D

The funny thing about the difficulty is that instead of having the COM improve its tactics or way of playing...the players skills improve, which is completely illogical, while yours seem to have theirs lowered.
Jesus Muad,i`ve never thought of it that way,you have a very good point mate :)

Yup, that’s right – the CPU makes you sh!t and them superhuman – that’s what I’ve been getting at, and that is cheating. Plain and simple cheating. Why should your players act like slugs, pass like 5-year olds, miss open goals, just so the CPU can win?!! It’s not playing better than you, you’re not actually playing rubbish, it’s just making whatever you do appear that way – you don’t get to actually see your players abilities shine through, cuz the CPU spoils everything you do, and when you make PERFECT challenges – it gives it free kicks, which they execute in a way where there is NOTHING that you can do to stop them scoring with three passes as your players just run out of the way of the ball, or decide to slow down just as you’re about to intercept it…it’s well irritating…I win most of my games too, and honestly, I like to lose sometimes because that's all part of the challenge. It's just the way it does it that bothers me, and even when I win 4-0, I still come away from the game p!ssed off, because all the way through the comp has been cheating it's ass off...

Just a suggestion...

I reckon you'll all do well going through the training mode IN FULL to get used to the game. When I first got PES5 I was still in PES4 hold-R1-and-X to win posession mode, which doesn't work as well in PES5 - you have to think a bit more and second guess your opponent. Your best friend is the 'super cancel' (hold R1 and R2 to cancel the AI movement of your player) in this one as it allows you to manouvre yourself into good positions much better then PES4 could.

Work through and complete all the training challenges and you might enjoy the game a bit more. I can beat Arsenal on 5 stars with Middlesbrough around 3 out of 5 times now. My free kicks are coming along too as I have practiced and practiced until my thumbs hurt!

Hope I'm not coming across as patronising or anything - that isn't my intention, but I am a massive PES fan and think this one is the best yet!

I'll give that a go mate - I might learn something new. I've only played the free training, not done the challenges yet. I did them all on PES4. I have to admit I still do play with some PES4 tactics, but I am changing and adapting to the new one. I use super cancel to avoid touching the ball as it's going out for a goal kick/throw in, and to sometimes change direction of my run on a through ball, but never really used it to intercept - I'll try it! Cheers!

I played the game since 4 days and I think it's awful...:realmad: here's y
1)The refree is whistling more than a cobra but only when you get the ball
2)CPU players run like they have pepper stuck in their as...
3)Your players sleep kindly on the field even if they got the ball one inch away from them.
4)CPU covers so well the ball that if you wanna steal it you get a foul.

I even looked for a player who was outrunning martins. His name was volpi and magically he had acceleration and speed on the 75's. Can you fu$%ing image ??????
For all these reasons I think I'll remove Pes5 unless some patch will better this absurd things.

P.S.
I can only play with CPU since I don't have internet at home.

Another thing I've noticed.

I used to play PES4 on the 'wide' camera angle (as I could see more of the pitch) but I've found I can better see how my players body shape (so I can see when is a good time to release a pass or shoot) by using the 'normal long' angle.

Using this angle and the radar a bit more I don't mind not being able to see all the pitch and play much, much better.

If you were a PES4 wide-boy, have a go on on 'normal long' if you're having problems with PES5 as it made a world of difference to my game (I gave away less fouls as I could properly see where my player was in relation to my opponent.

Thats good constructive stuff, busdherd.
Giorggio, i think you are being too harsh.
The thing about this game, i reckon, is that they aimed for a more realistic experience, so those of you who are in love with the non-stop arcade like action of the older versions are not going to like it. But people who want to have a slower more life like kind of game are really going to cherish this installment. The only thing that annoys me about the COM is that sometimes itll charge you with three defenders and that is one hell of an advantage, but if you play with anything lower than six star it does not give 100%, and that i do not like because then there is no challenge. Playing the COM is just silly anyway, when you play against other good players then you realize how good this game really is.
And what of those animations! You have to admit they did a good job with that.

I haven't played PES5 yet as I've just got to play 4 after buying a new graphics card. My thoughts on that? Graphics - 10, sound - 8, gameplay - 3. It's very annoying but maybe I'm missing some actions. It's impossible to take on a player, and what's with the shooting over the bar every bloody time!? And can you select your player manually? Cos I always get crappily positioned ones chosen so I can't do anything. Any hints? Or is it really this bad?

You need to think more about tactics in this installment trust me when you get to grips with it taking on players doesn't seem as much a struggle:D

When you are choosing which side to play with there is a bar that says auto change(i think)...lower it until it says manual.

You can do that pressing :L1: be carefull, if you reach Fixed, that means that you'll play only with one player of your whole team.

Firstly, when ordering this game i had absolutely no intention of playing Master League or any other against the CPU as i knew the change from 4 wouldn't be sufficient. I bought it solely to play online with on ps2.

I played the CPU only twice when it arrived just so i could actually play it, and not be learning it...so i have no arguments with cheating or any of the other points mentioned. However, playing online, there are a few occurrences i am less than happy with:

1. I hate the way goalkeepers now run out of goal automatically sometimes. i.e when a through ball is played and they just tamely kick it out for a throw when your defender would have gotten there to mop things up anyway without putting more pressure on your defense.

For example i played this guy with Chelsea and he was Arsenal. It was a close game, 1-1 and we had reached stoppage time. Now he was attacking me a lot late on and i just kicked the ball harmlessly downfield...or so i thought. Crespo (my lone striker) decided not to chase it and fair enough he was probably tired and Sol Campbell was chasing the ball as though he was a striker free through on goal.

Unknown to my opponent, his keeper was sprinting out of goal like a mad man and he must have been pressing X for a light header back to the supposedly stationary keeper...but no. Campbell lobs Lehman with a beautiful looping header which rolls into the back of the net. 2-1 me, i win, he's left thinking 'what the fu**?' Just one example...was pretty damn funny tho!

2. Penalties! I almost shit myself when i'm about to have a penalty shoot out because i'm left looking like a right prat. I mean, at first i thought ahh well u win some, you lose some...then ahh well, you win hardly any, you lose most...but now its you win none, you lose all.

Maybe it's just that i'm really shit at them (aiming correctly and guessing) or maybe Barcelona (the team i use online) are at fault. But everyone ALWAYS misses! I've had to go as far as leaving Ronaldinho out of the penalty takers because he's just so bad! I only score with him when i go straight down the middle (and people almost always guess right when i do). Otherwise, i aim to the left and he kicks it so wide i can picture my opponent laughing at me; same when i aim for any other angles(even pressing down as well), he really is THAT bad.

And it happens EVERY time, not just once or twice. (Mind you, if i get a penalty during the game, even really late on(so it can't be fatigue, he will bury it-weird)). Eto'o, Guily, Larsson etc also miss but not if i aim down as well. Finally, please do not EVER take a penalty (in a shootout) with Xavi. He WILL miss if you aim to any of the sides (left or right). There's just no 2 ways about it. It's like the cross bars are magentically attracted to the ball-made of fuc**** leather! Maybe i play him in an unfavourable position and he expresses his anger during penalties, i just don't know...

P.S I really do love the game, and these things that annoy me are very minor indeed, and can be extremely laughable at times, once past the point of ridiculous. O ye increased number of down-right Conference-like own goals are moreover annoying, but that's for another time.

I disagree.
I play with Barcelona, and they score every single penalty ;)

Lol i know how to take penalties. I tap both the sqaure button and the d-pad. I already said i score all the time during the actual game. And do you play online ps2? Cuz it's probably slightly different on there.

Maybe, but the PC version is just a port of the PS2 one, so the gameplay should be practically the same, so do the stats. And I score almost all penalties, in the extra time, in the penalty row, and all my shoots at least go through the square

I don't see how the PC is a port of the PS2 - it's got much better graphics which means it's probably ported from the PC to the PS2 these days, don't you think? I dunno...anyway, I've just played my brother and is was quite a pleasant experience - he's not as good as me yet, but because of the bias on the defence and the fact he uses a defensive formation anyway makes for a close game, only ever a goal in it usually. Still niggly shitty things happen, but it's much better, because it happens to both of you...

I've been playing an international cup on 3 star tonight with England - and have come to the conclusion that I HATE HATE HATE playing the comp. It's a complete disgrace. It doesn't just cheat now and again - it cheats ALL game - I've videod lots of examples of what it does and I'm going to put them online soon for all you non-believers - It's absolutely ridiculous - I'm winning, but I don't feel good after winning - I just feel like I have been playing against 22 men for 10 minutes...

The CPU stats are just better than yours. Period. And it wins almost everything, every loose ball is magnetised to a CPU's foot - it doesn't just make the CPU better it just makes you really, really poor, and you have to work tirelessly to try and keep hold of the ball. It's not an enjoyable experience anymore, and every goal I score doesn't make me happy, it just makes me feel like I'm getting revenge on the conniving scumbag. I literally swear at it, like it's a person who I hate! And I don't hate anyone!!!

Master league is probably gonna be a no-no for me this year, the stress of playing is doing my head in...and I'm not crap before anyone says that bollocks. I'm just sick of being manipulated to allow the CPU goal scoring opportunities - It makes me furious...

Yajeel damn u make me laugh! Lol i can empathise with you on games that stress you out, unfortunately pro isn't one of them. ISS on ps1 definitiely was tho, playing against Cameroon with Nigeria in the African Nations Cup did my 10 year old head in! Try playing Crash Bandicoot (kONAMI), that usually works to de-stress me and proves very rewarding...:D
